Last time I saw red writing was at school from the teacher........ To get back on topic & to answer cass I don't think the OP's EV could be re-energised as easily as a petrol or diesel which would only require a set of 12v jump leads & a charged battery. As the OP's car effectively "died" then could someone tell me what the procedure is to initially recover &/or move EV's ? I understand that they have a 12v system for lights/radio so would this have "died" too ? |

There are companies ( see a previous thread) that will come out and 'jump charge' a dead EV so it can't be long before the AA/RAC etc incorporate this into their breakdown cover and into their breakdown vehicles. These are just teething issues and no reason to condemn the whole concept of EV's - what technology was born fully perfect? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Actually, since the problem was almost certainly a dead 12v battery, it could easily have been ‘jump started’. Ask me how I know. Gone D3 Gone FFRR L322 Gone FFRR L405 Now on the JLR electric highway .... |

I think hydrogen will win out. Yes it’sa less efficient end to end energy transfer overall, but the combination of low pollution from use with ability to fill up quickly like normal and that range not degrading with each fill to me makes it worth while longer term. V8 or else ... |

My comment was based on "dead" traction batteries. Am I correct in assuming EV's need a good 12v (or 24v for commercials) battery to wake them up/get going/keep going ? |

So on an EV how is the 12v topped up or is it just charged when plugged in like the motor batterys? |
