I noticed on my Christmas round trip a subtle vibration under my feet when accelerating harder.

Quite hard to explain but the car is running well generally and had an oil change 100 miles ago, but it’s almost like a slight strained feeling when under heavy load - that translates into a slight vibration in the footwell.

Wondering if it’s something like an engine mount type issue or if the gearbox or diff oil could do with a change. As a new owner I have no idea when or if they have been changed but it has full dealer history from new (current mileage is close to 143k).

Just feel something is a bit off and it should feel smoother when pushed. It’s subtle, but noticeable.

Is it across the rev range and at all speeds when you put the engine / drive train under heavy load?

Start with the easy stuff - are all wheels balanced and is tracking aligned? If so then I would try:

1.Does the vibration go away if the gearbox is in sports mode? If so it could be the torque converter?

2.A binding brake caliper (check how hot the wheels feel after a long ish drive - if one is much hotter than the others then that is your problem)

3. Prop carrier bearing - you will need to get under the car and remove the cover around the prop - then try and move it up and down with your hand. It will be pretty obvious if something is awry.

Thanks for the above. Will try it in sports mode which I guess is ‘manual mode’. Does this setting bypass the torque converter?

The juddering of a failing torque converter is caused by the lock up clutch misbehaving when in "continuous slip" mode. If you have the car in sport/manual mode the lock up clutch is locked solid.

Gearbox works well and just had all the oils changed.

Starting to think the issue is in the engine area but translates to a vibration in the footwell, after paying more attention to it the subtle vibration is present at any time I push hard on the accelerator, slightly more noticeable at higher speeds.

No error codes and the car generally feels smooth and drives/starts well, going to change the fuel filter and air filter as a starter for ten as been 12 months since they were changed.

Noticed in the service history that the fuel filter and air filter had not been changed in 3 years. Sorting these two things out has basically solved the bulk of the issue, there is still a slight vibration under load but guessing within normal-ish tolerances.

How JLR Nottingham did three yearly services without changing those two items is beyond me. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

I face the same vibration issue and hav thought of engine mou ts too…have you replaced yours, has it cure the problem?

I have had so much other stuff go wrong on the car I forgot about this!

Overall I don’t notice it as much, I think changing all the diff oils helped and perhaps I have just got used to it. Will have a feel the next time I get some speed up and report back, I imagine engine mounts decay over time which won’t help. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.
