One issue was getting the top off the pipe to suck the oil out. I didn't want to come off. I think I will buy a new one. It rotated off the bayonet fitting to come up about 1 cm, then would twist with pliers but not pull off. This was the longest part of the whole process.

The oil that I took out did seem thinner than the oil going in.
