Anyone know if you can use a rotary gear selector off another model on an L405?

I’m assuming it’d need reprogramming, but is it possible?

I’d have thought a selector from a RRS would work, as the gearbox is the same and the interior trim wouldn’t need to be cut up, just remove the rotary selector and replace with the pistol grip lever. Would be interested to see if anyone has tried it.

I was thinking of keeping the rotary selector for resale purposes tbh. Should have said would it be swappable with that style.

But personally I’d be prefer the gear knob than the dial.

Looking at the RRS and FFRR centre console, apart from the gear selector they look identical, so I’d have thought it must be possible to swap. But I’m no techie, so its bound to be more complicated than taking one unit out and putting another one in.

Just stumbled upon this threat. A RRS shifter would make the 405 near perfect. I really do hate that stupid Rotary knob. Will run this concept past my independent LR mech.

Andy, could you ask him or bring him into this thread? Logically, I am thinking if the RRS shifter is compatible, why hasn't been done to date? But I think a line of inquiry is worthwhile.

If you it makes you happy, that's perfectly fine.

I think it's horrid, feels like it may break at any moment and it's operation is not suited to agressive driving. Apart from that it's fine!

Spirited driving…that’s what the paddles are for. Spin it to S, mash the go peddle.

And while we're reminiscing, the L322 had this charming, effortless grace about slipping into sport mode, almost like a ballroom dancer effortlessly gliding across the dance floor. It was simply exquisite... well, in my humble view, anyway.

When I first saw the rotary shifter in the advert for the “new” RR I loved it! The way it rose serenely out of the dash looked fab.
