England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue
Boot with a mind of it's own...

Use the button inside, top and bottom tailgate open fully and close fully

Use the button on the top tailgate and it opens fully, use the bottom button it opens, both close as they should....

Use the button on the remote and the top tailgate opens about half way (always the same amount) and the bottom tailgate starts to open and stops at the same time as the top tailgate but only open a few inches.... press the remote button again and the top and bottom open fully..... sometimes it will close with the button on the remote.... now and again it opens fully and I get all excited but it goes back to half opening next time....

I have set the maximum opening height to fully open dozens of times... makes no difference...

Any ideas chaps...??? Pete

Hi Pete, I had the same issue with my tailgate, did the usual reset you had done with no joy but after I had charged my battery the problem went away, might be worth a shot if you have a charger to hand Thumbs Up 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Yes, erratic or sluggish tailgate could be battery issues.
Do you do mainly short journeys, intermittent use?

I keep mine on a smart charger 24/7, just replaced my main battery 5y.o.

Get a battery tester, there’s one I’ve recommended on a couple of threads on here recently very good and now under £20. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Mine is the same Pete, definitely down to battery charge, only other problem I have which I am sure you do is getting out the way quick enough to avoid getting decapitated Thumbs Up

Maybe my battery is worse than yours as it doesn't move fast enough to hit anything....!!!

The FBH works for a good 30 mins and the car still starts fine, maybe the slave battery is backing it up... Pete

Maybe, everything else is great, however I get 'low battery start engine' warning when towing, and tailgate dicks about when button pressed, assume leisure battery in trailer drains it somewhat, otherwise fine Thumbs Up didn't realise there are 2 batteries, oh Jesus Rolling with laughter

Try it with a charger connected, if it's OK, you know it's voltage related.

Never had the 'low battery start engine' warning

"didn't realise there are 2 batteries" only on some models... apparently...

Phoenix, I will try that... Thumbs Up Pete

If you have a low current charger, that'd be best - it'll lift the voltage a bit but not so much that the motors operate entirely off the charger. If not, put the lights on to draw off some of the charger output. IIRC the 'low voltage - start engine' needs the voltage to be low for a period of time to stop transient current draw repeatedly triggering the message.

I’m finding that mine shows similar idiosyncrasy as the OP. I don’t feel that my battery is low as it starts the engine very strongly. I think the seals at the side of the upper tailgate brush against the rear pillars slightly and that depending on the circumstances, its enough for the motor to sense an obstruction, so stops. I don’t think it takes much for the motors to sense obstruction, so even the slightest change in speed brings it below the threshold to stop. V8 or else ...

Fisha,

After a bit of searching I came to that conclusion as well, my top tailgate is slightly out of alignment, maybe 5mm at the swage line, it just touched at the top when closed... there is a PowerfulUK video on adjusting it up and down and tilt.... It's far too cold outside at the moment to worry about it...

I'll adjust it and then see what happens, apparently the second battery can prop up a failing main battery very well so leads you to "think" all is well....

Maybe it's a bit of both.... Thumbs Up Pete
