I wonder how close the L322 "oil drain mod" is to the more recent L405 - as cannot find the L332 one anywhere ?

I'd imagine the mount and bend is slightly different, as the diff, driveshaft and chassis locations are different?

The technical bulletin marks the part number as LR022781, which looks like it was superceded by LR032130 (a search of this number came up with many available). 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

LR032130 is listed for L322, L494 & L405. The drain doesn't go anywhere near the diff, driveshafts or the sub-frame.

I also had done drain mode about year ago. In the beginning all looks nice, no smoke at all (at least seems so). But ater half year (10000km) of driving the smoke coming slightly back again. Not so much as before, but still.
Seems there is nothing to do anymore, only way to fix it compleatly is replace turbocharger. I already thinking about it, but change my mind after thinking a littlebit. Its not critical in my opinion.
My theory is:
All used turbodiesel engines consume small amount of oil due turbos are not 100% hermetic anymore. A microscopic amount of oil past every second from turbo to intake. Due its burn immidietly, there is no visible smoke from exhaust and no signs that something is wrong. The owners are happy and they even dont think about some oil burning in cylinders, until they dont need to add it during service interval.
In our engines oil not burn immidietly, its accumulates hours by hours in turbocharger snail and when the turbo starts finally spinning, oil fog past into the intake at once and cause the visible smoke. So why do we worry? Its normal. Burned oil amount is the same as other makes have. Its just the illusion of the problem due visible smoke.
Until there is no significant oil level drop (under 250g in 10000km in mine case), both turbos are compleatly dry outside, no oil in intercooler (I opened both intake pipes, 2-3 drops only), where we see the problem? Its just 4,4TDV8 special feature, caused by long time non-spinning turbo.

I have regularly been paddling down the box to get the engine revving above 3000 rpm in the last few weeks, and have no smoke, it is obvious to me that the second turbo needs to be used now and again to prevent the oil build up

Happy at the moment to leave things well alone Smile

I'm of the same mind, it's easy to get above 3000rpm using the paddles on the motorway but try as I might I can't see any smoke in my mirrors. So I guess I should leave well alone, there is another possibility that it has already been done by the previous owner. Anyway when I see smoke I'll have a look Very Happy Geoff

I have just looked on ebay for LR032130 and to me this looks like the originally fitted drain pipe and not the upgrade. Correct me if I am wrong. Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.
Previously owned 1991 Range Rover Vogue 3.9 V8.

The oild drain mod worked 100% for me, no more oil smoke, no oil consumption absolutely 100% solution.

I also feel that no matter what the Russian guy has to offer with their current standing in world events, I wouldn't pay him a penny for anything. BMW i3 Electric Car

I never suggested that it would work for every car, I havent heard of anyone having the mod done where it hasnt worked though.

I feel your interpretation of my comment as a political view is a huge understatement. The majority of the world are against what Russia and some of it's people are doing in Ukraine, war crimes, murder and other atrocities. Most countries have a trade embargo with Russia and here you are promoting trade with a Russian, I would have thought that would be illegal with the current situation. As for your comment stating nobody asked for my views and to keep them to myself, nobody invited you to moderate this forum either, so if you don't like my views you are at liberty to ignore them okay?

It's sad that you dont care about whats going on in Ukraine and with all due respect very selfish.

Stan / Mod team, apologies if this is bordering on being political, I do however feel quite strongly that we should be supporting Ukraine and NOT promoting trade with Russia no matter how small. BMW i3 Electric Car

julien381 as a new member you are very welcome here and it seems you are in the trade so we value people like yourself.

On the downside, as a newcomer linking to a Russian solution that none of us have heard of on here one of the most detailed discussions on the web about tis topic, will also result in people being careful and, well a bit skeptical isn't unreasonable.

And people here in the UK at least but probably a lot of the world - don't want to do any business with Russia including the people of Russia. The reasons are obvious.

You've raised some really interesting areas and it would be good to hear / see more.
Wondering why the official JLR fix is the drain? (could be many reasons)

Chap on Facebook has an alternative easy first try fix for smoke screens. Put a new pump on. Easy to access on top of engine.
Iโ€™ll try and link to his post and video on Facebook. In essence, the pump wears and canโ€™t suck the oil quick enough out of the turbo drain sump so it then backs up.
