Hi,

I have a 2011 RR 4.4 TDv8. When coming off the throttle at motorway speeds, or cruising with a very slight amount of throttle open, the car will judder. It's a single judder, only lasts for a fraction of a second and feels like the car has had fuel cut off, or the gearbox is between gears.

Absolutely fine under full throttle and all other normal driving conditions. Garages have struggled to replicate and therefore cannot diagnose.

Help, any ideas?

yep, mine had that...theres a TSB that involves a software update, LTB00054v2..

as Stan said, theres is a software update to solve this.

Not sure if it is LR only, but I suspect most places with a decent diagnostic rig can fix it with an update, but it wont show a fault when they read the codes, they need to know what to do. if you give them the TSB code above then they should be able to find the software update from that.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Annoyingly it was in the main dealer with a description of the fault a while back and I asked for any software updates. They said they could not reproduce so did not do anything!

Did the software update solve your issue? I'm having the same problem you described, though the judder happens at lower speeds too. There is no judder if I kick down the accelerator. But there is when I apply slight acceleration.

garyRR - Would a torque converter issue also cause a slightly rough idle? I also have a fault code indicating a misfire on cylinder 6.

A torque converter issue would cause juddering (even slight) when shifting to drive and when pulling off at slow speed or a slow coast.

I mean, it's worth a software update because even at Land Rover main dealer prices, I can't see them charging more than the diagnostics fee (likely <£200) whereas a recon torque converter fitted is c. £1,000+. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Same here. Its common fault on 4,4. I was asking JLR, they say yes, we know what to do. But still have no time to go there and fix it.
And yes, sometime (very rarely) judder also with low speed as well. Its not torque converter, its just cut off injection for a moment.

jaguar3 - so what's the fix for this problem? Is it just a software update, or cleaning the injectors or something else entirely? Previously I had a leaking charge hose to the throttle body and a very tiny hole in one of the four short rubber hoses to the donut, all of which I have since replaced. I have also cleaned the MAP and MAF sensors. However, this judder and the P0306–00 (26) fault code remain.

Updating software won't fix your misfire issue, I think you need to get that sorted first....  Pete

I have not deepened in this problem, so canot say. Just JLR say they know what to do. Iam not driving very often on highway over 120kph (no highways near my), so its not critical to me. Up to 100kph no problems at all.
At lower speed that happened very rarely (2-3 times only as I remember).
I was asking JLR a year ago, so not remember exactly, but they say something about miss of communication between engine and gearbox...or someting like that. But yes, they promese to fix just by updating something.

Had the same problem with hesitation at low speed and sometimes at higher speeds on cruise control. Had a gearbox software update by a local independent, fault has now gone and gearchange much improved. LTB00454v2 - Engine Hesitation/Powertrain Control Module Update (various issues) 2004 TD6 - Gone

Can you smell diesel in the engine bay or is it in the exhaust? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
