Can I just jump in on this with as bit about PWM signals - it seems to me that if the duty cycle is high, this will cause stiffened suspension, now no amount of voltage measuring will give you the duty cycle. 'If' the duty cycle is correct, then the actuator must be slow in releasing or the viscosity / contamination of the damping fluid is too high.

I don't have adaptive damping so I'm unable to help with actual signals, at some point though, the resolution to this is going to need the PWM signal 'scoping for signal quality and plausibility and the dampers themselves tested for reaction times.

Yeah, I think either front dampers are jiggered, and can’t respond to signal/solenoid stuck, no oil in… or they are fine and the signal is wrong, due to sensor etc. That’s pretty much where the thread started. It’s finding out which, given it’s gonna cost upwards of £1000 to replace front shocks, and some have done that, with no improvement. I know earlier in the thread someone used a diagnostic tool to look at the ECU signals, but guessing we would each need to do similar to prove one way or the other… and I don’t think you can easily rig up something to send “12v” to the shock and see if it’s soft…

Gonna be the garage I suspect….. and hope they diagnose it correctly….. we can’t be the only ones who are having the issue… maybe it’s age and wear on the shocks….?

Gonna be some unhappy L405 owners soon, if that’s the case….

I think you're not too far from me, I'd be happy to 'scope the sensor & output signals, can't do much about the damper internals though!

it won't cure anything but would at least give you a reference point and an idea if it's an issue with the dampers or the control side.

Brilliant gents…. That’s a lovely offer from you both. It’s really spoiling the car for me now. If it needs new shocks, it can have them, but I don’t want to do it if it’s not the issue.

I still have my old rears here too.

Increasing duty cycle increases the bypass valve open percentage which softens the suspension. 100% duty cycle, ie analogue 12V, fully opens the bypass valve to allow maximum flow through the bypass valve rather than forcing the oil through the main valves.
An analogue voltmeter will show an increasing voltage as PWM duty cycle increases whereas an oscilloscope will show that the voltage is 12V switching on and off at the programmed frequency.

I don't have any messages on the dash, no Suspension warnings, but would like to figure out how to determine if the car has gone to Hard setting ( as in ECU fault ) , any pointers for me to determine this would be great - thank you
