Towing Electrics - Towing ECU

I'm going to install a 13 pin dedicated wiring loom plus a towing ECU. I understand it is all plug and play, but does the ECU need to be configured by the dealer once installed? Current MY2020

I bought my plug in kit from towequipe. Everything you need is in it. Plug n play. Mine didn't require any dealer activation, its made by westfalia and is oem. Ian

Thanks for that, I've just looked on their web site and they sell both the loom and ECU together as a kit. Nice one Thumbs Up Current MY2020

Hi,

The kit is plug and play with no programming required. The BMW towing module also fits, I picked mine up for about 50% of the LR price.

The LR kit also notifies the EAS that a trailer is atatched and locks the suspension in standard height, as well as relaying bulb failure information.

I got my mechanic to fit the armature, but I fitted the wiring myself as that was a peice of cake.

I hope this is not seen as hi jacking the thread but I had my tow electrics and removable hitch fitted by the dealer and my suspension doesn't lock at standard hight when connected , wouldn't have it any other way now as it's incredibly useful towing of road and for hitching up and un-hitching.
Am I the only one that can do this then? 2008 MY Supercharged

When towing it is important that outfit stays level. LR never intended the suspension to drop to highway mode whilst towing. Imagine you have a big twin wheeler and your suspension drops, in reality this will make the trailer try and lift the rear of the car.

Also the DSC is set up with certain parameters being believed, if you change these it may not function as designed in an emergency situation. I had a caravan that tried to overtake the RR once, I was very thankful for the DSC that pulled it all back in check.

As for hitching/unhitching - it makes no difference, you can still raise & lower the suspension, but you have to disconnect the electrics first.

I could raise / lower mine when I had the caravan attached, used it to roughly level the van Whistle

DSC worked trust me it kicked in once when I lost a wheel on someone else's plant trailer I borrowed, lost a wheel with three and a half tones on Shocked
I always connect the electrics and brake away tether before I raise the vehicle up on to the hitch to connect it , I get the full "check trailer lights " if a bulb is out and the non flashing trailer symbol on the dash if all is good so my trailer electrics definitely don't inhibit the suspension , mind you never towed at 100 mph to see if it lowers and upsets the nose weight yet Twisted Evil 2008 MY Supercharged

Whenever i plug the trailer in i get "check trailer light" but they all work, only have brakes and indicators on the trailer though so you think its looking for something else? 2004 black Vogue TD6
