Does anyone know much about or have the part numbers for the EVAP canister in the fuel system?

I’m having the problem where the vehicle won’t take much fuel before the pump nozzle clicks off. It’s obvious that the air in the tank isn’t getting out as quickly as the fuel is going in, hence the issue.

Seen a lot of videos on YouTube about this and seems to be one of two things:
- least likely but possible, the hoses that allow the air to get out of the tank are blocked.
- most commonly, the EVAP canister and the charcoal filter are blocked and need replacing as they do have a shelf life.

On my 102k mile 2010 4.4TDV8, the EVAP canister seems the likely culprit due to age and mileage.

I haven’t had a chance to get into details on the workshop manual yet but any info from forum members with knowledge or experience of this would be appreciated!

Diesels don't have an EVAP system as diesel doesn't evaporate as readily as petrol.
Check the breather hoses on the filler neck, also it might have a miss fuel device in the filler neck to prevent it being filled with petrol. If that gets activated then it will block the filler neck and would need to be reset, it should be pretty obvious if it's been activated as a yellow pop up sliding cover will be seen down inside the filler neck. There will be a tool somewhere, probably in the boot, to reset it if it has the device. Not sure the UK market 2010 L322 diesels got that device but other LR products in that year did. Could be barking up the wrong tree as I don't if it totally prevents filling once activated or just restricts the flow like the issue you're having.

IIRC isn't there some anti syphon device that can get triggered and give this problem with filling... or am I not remembering right...??? Pete

Weejock - thanks for the suggestion. Misfuel safety flap definitely not the problem. The car has one but it’s not been triggered. I can’t see a breather hose in the space around the fuel filler hole so do you know if I have to get behind the wheel arch lining to check those and what should I be checking to see that they’re clear?

Haylands - another good suggestion. Do you know anything more about how a potential anti-siphon might work? Andy

Yeah that is another possibility, the Anti Syphon usually is just a big ball at the base of the filler neck, push anything solid down the filler, like a pipe, and it pushes the ball down preventing anything going past however fuel can go around it.

There's an easy solution to this, which many of us do. Put the pump in upside down and all is well

The pump will continue pumping and click off only when full, as it should. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Since this suggestion I can report that, after trying the upside down pump nozzle on my last two fill ups, I’ve not had a single unwanted click-off! Touch wood that this continues and that no further issues are needing solving (for today at least!! 🤣).
