Any tips on replacing coolant water pump

So as explained in my other threads I think my water coolant pump needs replacing due to the DTC's I'm getting. Is this a fairly simple thing to do. LR has stock so can have one tomorrow for £120 which aint that bad so I was thinking of doing it myself. Dont think I need to replace anything else at the same time as nothing else is mentioned in the technical bulletin. My rave doesn't contain SC info so I'm abit unsure. I think as long as I have diagrams and info I will be fine. Anybody had experience of doing this or any tips for me.

Not sure on the SC but make sure you get a new joint/gasket. May come with the new pump but might be a separate order part.

Don't think I need one. It's the auxiliary water pump (sorry forgot to point that out) doesn't mention any kind of gasket in the microcat.

The aux coolant pump is in the same locale for all models.

Have you verified it's not running by turning the ign on and the heater on max temp with fan speed low, then put your hand on the pump, it will either be vibrating or not. Not means its dead.

This happened on mine, and also Neo's RR so seems to be an increasingly common failure item (much like it is on the BMW's it's come off of)

It uses BMW push fit connectors so is relatively strait forward to swap out - however it is in a hard to reach place so get a milk crate to stand on.

I paid £90 inc parts & labour to replace.

No problem. Looks fairly simple swap out. Unclip the 2 hoses and the electric cable and that's it. Think the hardest thing will be swapping the cable connecters the right position.

The pump may not actually be broken. It's advised that it gets changed when changing the cross connections which is causing my reduced engine performance msg. Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged

I'm not familiar with the SC engine, can you explain what you mean by cross connections? I've heard of the cross over valves in the heating/cooling system... is it those?

The auxiliary pump may be have been cross connected in connector C3006 + & - the wrong way round. This causes the pump to run backwards over time which eventually will throw up the P2601 codes I have been getting causing my SC to get the reduced engine performance msg. Theres a technical bulletin from 2007 that covers it. My SC's Vin matches the ones that are affected. So I'm hoping it's this. Just a case of swapping over the cables but as a extra measure it's best to change the pump at the same time. Seems to be a lot about this problem with the SC engines on google. Hopefully this with cure my problem if not then it's back to the drawing board.

Well fitted the new coolant pump this afternoon. Seemed to take bloody ages getting the hoses off! The red/white & brown cables to the pump were as aspected the wrong way round so rather than pull them out the connecter I just trimmed the little plastic stopper on the new pump and plugged the connector back in the other way round, saved loads of hassle pulling cables out and re-wiring them back in. The only problem I had was that the bolt thats holds the pump clamp to the car snapped so I had to secure the clamp with cable ties. Anyway job done. Took it out for a good 40 mile run with most of that under very heavy load Wink

No sign of any problems and more importantly no reduced power msg. So Hopefully thats all sorted?

A bit off topic but I also managed to get it into super extended mode when I drove over some grass onto my drive. I've been trying to get it into that for ages Smile

Did you have any problems bleeding the coolant system afterwards ? I had a few issues getting mine bled properly.....

No not really. Just took the coolant tank cap off then loosened the bleed screw just above the pump until coolant came out with no air bubbles. Ran the engine for 30 secs then did again but no bubbles this time. Gonna let the engine cool down then top up if needed.
