I didn't see any point in changing the DS3 for LED. The HID are more than bright enough and I am conscious of other road users by using a non type-approved light source in my headlights for the main service lights.

I only changed the main beam one for LED because it was a halogen, and they're not on when other traffic is around.

To be honest I never even looked at LED replacements because the HID uses a HV igniter for the lamp I didn't even consider LED as an option. Christian.

Wheels.

Anyone that has been following this will know my wheels were a state. I also had a slight shimmy coming from the rear end and when I was looking at my rear suspension I noticed one of the Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres was misshapen, in fact it was more like an egg than a tyre. Absolutely this was making the car shimmy at the rear end.

It also had some cracks in the tread around the circumference. They were dated 2015.

With this in mind I decided to take the car off the road immediately and get the tyres done. While I was at it, I also got the wheels done - including a check for roundness.

This is what the wheels looked like before

Today's undertaking was to replace the ARB bushes as I have a set here and I have this odd clunking when turning at low speed which I am trying to determine.

After jacking, supporting and removing the wheels - remove the two heat shields, one either side. Two 10mm nuts and two 8mm bolts.

I didn't intend on doing this but you'll need to remove the exhaust hangers - more will be explained shortly



There is a special place in hell for the LR designer that thought bonding the bush to the bar was a good idea.

Why?! Why would you do such a thing!

You'll need to drop the six bolts out of the subframe and drop it a couple of inches to get the bar down far enough for access to cut it off, be prepared for a lot of swearing

it took me 45 minutes with a sharp stanley knife and a supply of new blades to cut the old bush off and successfully remove the remnants from the bar.

it took me about 5 seconds to fit the new one over the bar and then about 25 mins per side to refit the securing clamp, the subframe bolts and the drop links.

This job could be been done in about 2 hours, instead it took about 4 because of that bloody bonded bush. Christian.

Took the car for it's MoT test today, presented it 11 days early and it failed. Crying or Very sad

I need the replace the rear brake pipes due to corrosion and there is an advisory on the subframe bushes which I'll do at the same time as the brake pipes.

Ordered some AP brake hoses from Island 4x4 and rigid pipes from Land Rover - the brake pipes are long so posting isn't really an option - so I'm collecting from LR tomorrow.

I ordered a set of Febi bushes for an E53 X5 as I understand from several people that they are exactly the same ones. Hopefully that wasn't a mistake!

Stay tuned for the write up for changing the bits Christian.

I have this job to do at the weekend - as a newb to L322s, given I am loosening off the subframe, where should I put the jack stands as this would normally be where I would support a car from?

Edited as I found the above poster’s question in the tech section and I think his question refers to ARB bush change.

Jack the car up on the crossmember and put stands on the jack points or like I did, on the inner chassis rails behind the subframe mounting bolts. Christian.

Took my car for it's MoT Test and it failed on corrosion to the rear brake pipes, with an advisory for the subframe bushes.

Got straight on the phone to LR and ordered them up.



Also ordered the flexi pipes and bushes.



Was quite straightforward to change the pipes. After jacking up the car I removed part of the NSF wheelarch liner and disconnected the pipes, using a small piece of hose to connect the two tails to each other to stop the reservoir draining out.

Then remove the plastic pipe protector, it literally just pulls down despite having what looks like a hex head on it, they would not unscrew.

Then the NS fuel tank protector, this was a little more difficult as it needs a bit of persuasion at the rear end to get past the subframe.

As I was doing the bushes I removed the shock absorber and dropped the subframe a little bit which also helped to get the OS pipe back in

Also hit any areas with surface rust with Hydrate 80 and then overcoated with matt black paint and then hit the whole lot with stone chip.

These are the old flexis, they are almost identical except for the positioning of the insulation around the rigid section.



The old pipes were in a right state, they were so corroded they basically just snapped as soon as any bend was put in them.
