David, I used the type with the lip because the U type does not effectively stop dirt laden water getting between the wheel arch liner and the arch.

I used the u shape rubber because I wanted to completely cover the wheel arch lip from stone damage. Water will still get behind any 'seal' unless you fill it with silicone or the like first.

What a fantastic write up, I have had to change the same suspension components on mine, I also need to change the centre prop bearing and I’m just waiting on a gearbox flush.

Thanks very much for that, it's always good to see positive feedback. It helps to motivate me to keep documenting it! I'm not sure I'd have a flush on the gearbox BTW, I've heard mixed things and ZF don't recommend it. Christian.
