Those of you that have followed my project page will know that I have changed all the arms and balljoints on my car already, but it's now developed a really loud creaking when steering or over bumps.

Before I get it up in the air to have a look, does anyone have any pointers to what this could be?

I'm thinking perhaps strut top mount? Not sure what else could be at fault there as it's all been on the car less than 6 months and only do ne about 1800 miles. Christian.

This is the creak and it's the bottom balljoint that's part of the lower arm.

They were changed in October last year and have done about 1200 miles. They're Britpart.

I cannot believe those arms have failed in less than 1300 miles. Shocking. Christian.

They’re not called for no reason

I’ve just replaced everything on the front of mine. In the arms without the ball joints I replaced the bushes and in the arms with the ball joints I replaced the whole arm. Genuine LR are readily available or Island 4x4/Advanced Factors have Lemforder parts readily available too (I read somewhere Lemforder make them for LR).

Remember to torque up the bolts with the arms under load ie not jacked or they will be toast in a couple of thousand miles

Yes that’s quite clearly stated in the workshop manual as “in the normal driving position” which means not in off road or access mode, but on the ground in the normal driving position.

It’s worth noting that it’s only the bush end this applies to, not the balljoint end. Christian.
