Are they the original bulbs? I find Xenon’s deteriorate over time (they did on my last car, not sure if that’s a general thing) it got to the point that when I was diving in dipped beam I was continually being blinded by oncoming traffic. Some new HID bulbs fixed that. |

The large, white cone is (I think) a ball joint that fixes the reflector so the two adjusters can move the reflector horizontally and vertically. Can the ballast resistor be changed for different values? |

The light is always the same on the Xenons, it doesn’t change from high to low beam, there is just a shutter used on dip so you don’t blind oncoming traffic.

A mechanical flap? Is this operated by a solenoid? Perhaps the flap may be adjusted? I'll have a look in the rave manual |

Yeah. If you flick from low to high beam without the engine on, you might be able to hear it. Ignition on… obviously.

I would be tempted to fit new bulbs. If you get them from Amazon or Halfords or similar with a fairly ope. Returns policy then it should be easy enough to take them back if that doesn’t solve the problem.

Ahha! Engine off, ignition and lights on. Toggling between dip and main beams and you can really hear the two flaps banging up and down.

I’d be tempted to not start messing about with the aim- MOT issues and the flaps for high beam….

On full beam, the xexon bulbs are incredibly bright and provide a very long beam in country roads. But dipped (shuttered) they do provide a large area of illumination of the road and roadside but at too low a level of illumination. I need decent hotspots on the road ahead and left hand kerb. I now have to drive with the fog lights on to see the left hand kerb with decent clarity.

It sounds as though your headlight beams are set too high. Lowering them will improve things but would be better set up correctly either against a garage door or wall. You could even go to your local mot garage when they are quite and ask them to check / reset them. I don’t think you will get “hot spots” on dip beam with xenon’s but the light level should be more than adequate. Certainly l have no issue. |
