Despite the less that positive comments which seem quite common now from certain quarters I do politely think its your own fault.

27k is a lot of cash to part with without full due diligence. Anything out of the ordinary on a V5 should really be cause for concern.

I feel your pain in dealing with the DVLA robots - not the most helpful of services. Your expectations are not too high.

You will probably find the revised V5 will be with you much quicker. My Son brought a '93 mini a coupe of weeks ago - the V5 arrived in 4 days!

Good luck but don't waste time attacking the DVLA and I would suggest the seller is under no duty to tell you what you need to do.

They are just personal plates at the end of the day! 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Hopefully, my ' mistake' will at least warn others of the danger of buying a car with a Disability Tax rating.
The point many seem to be missing though is that to strike out ' Disability Tax" on a V5C and replace it with ' Diesel Car" on a computer at the DVLA,is estimated at SIX WEEKS. Don't point the finger at Covid19, the DVLA has been a colossus of inefficiency for approaching 30 years .

If only that was the only thing they do in that scenario and yours was the only one they do then I whole heartedly agree with you. It is a formal document as it documents the version of the truth (whether it is correct or not is immaterial). And yes covid has had a huge impact and created a big backlog with that department and many others.

Anything, with any government Deparment, where there is a material change to the tax status will (should?) be subject to verification and checks and balances. The whole UK legal system is based on following the rules and procedure, other countries approach it outcome based which in this case would make more sense as you a volunteering to pay tax. But that is just not how the system works.

Iā€™m not sure you are aware but the selling dealer can apply online for the new V5C at time of purchase and your new document arrives in a few days. Saves all the hassle if you insist he does this.

He could and did but dealer can't change tax status. That has to be done at DVLA via a post office that handles vehicle tax.Hence I couldn't pay the tax online. Got a usless V5C about four days after as it still stated Disability Tax .Only way to change it is to go to Post Office, fill in another form and pay tax there Application via P.O or by post for the replacement V5C both stated as requiring 6 weeks.
