Hello Phil ,

that is very reassuring to read .I was getting really quite despondent about the possibility of any solution .

Thanks for the heads up , I think this will be the route I will take whenever the insurance and subsequent purchase gets sorted .

Thanks

Hi Kot ,

I did have the keyless feature on , but I understand they can pick up the signal if they follow you into a shop etc ?

I have friends who have had secondary trackers fitted ,but the thieves rip the vehicle apart trying to locate the second tracker .IF they don't find it , you are then left with a vehicle with extensive damage .

I suppose on balance , I would prefer them to take the car without entering the house rather them breaking in and violating the family's space and or threatening members of the family ?

Don't know what the solution is ?

Never Never have the keyless on, always have a visual deterrent, put a steering lock on, thieves want to silently steal your car with minimum attention.

Like you say the scallywags use a GPS/GSM jammer. A VHF tracker cant be jammed so they wont even know Mr Plod is closing down on them, they cant detect it, so they dont rip the car apart looking for it. Thats why the company who makes them do not fit stickers advertising its existence.

An immobiliser with a tag or a special sequence to disarm would be a good idea.

There was a recent member on the RRS forum had his stolen last week, again with Keyless switched on. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Hi Kot ,

thanks for the tips - its definitely something I will be taking up , and its reassuring to hear that there are systems out there that can help minimise the chances of a another stolen vehicle and all the hassle that comes with it .

Lets see how the insurance companies process is , ( in 40 years of motoring , never experienced having a car stolen before !) .

Hi

GHOST II Immobiliser and Faraday pouch/box.

The ghost is about £450 fitted and the only way the car can be started is by a code entered using the buttons on the dash or steering wheel, doesn't matter if they get into the car.

The only way the car will go if it's trailered away.

In my opinion its better than a tracker. Steal the car with a tracker on it and the car can be driven away and stripped down before the owner has noticed. Just my thoughts.

Have a look on Youtube about the Ghost, its quite good.

Excellent. All interesting because I would love an L494/L405 at some point.

Also... Safe assumption the L322s aren't a target anymore due to age/value? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Oh and just to add, there are only a couple of places companies fit trackers! So, for example. London’s Instalations of trackers are probably covered by a handful of companies fitting trackers in the same place over and over again! If you specifically steal RR’s you already have a good idea where any equipment installed might be!

If anyone has something fitted on their driveway, get involved, ask questions people 👍👍👍

The meta trak is actually a cheaper subscription than I am paying at the moment for the LR Tracker

Sorry to hijack your thread Gary - but for continuity i thought Id carry on the thread rather than start a new one .

Update from insurance company -I had a call from the insurance company today , it seems they use trade in valuations to price a car and not current forecourt prices .

I can't find a comparable vehicle for less than £6k more than his valuation . .HIs line was " dealers can command what they like - it doesn't mean they will sell for what they advertise for" ( which I get ) .

Hence he argued that they use trade in values from 3 guides ( I guess Glasses Guide etc ) .

Has anyone any experience in dealing with the valuation peeps in insurance companies ? Is there much room for negotiation or will I be just wasting time ? .

Im guessing he is using trade in values for his settlement figure which is obviously a spread form what will be available on the forecourt .

No experience but surely this logic is flawed - insurance needs to cover the cost to replace, i.e. the market value to purchase, not what you’d likely receive if you traded it in, which is the market value to sell Whistle

Following a burglary I managed to get the loss adjuster to nearly double. The muppet tried every trick in the book for me to accept but I refused. And it went so far as me feeling compelled to file a formal complaint with the insurance company. They actually agreed with me when I presented the logic, overruled their appointed loss adjuster, and gave me the full amount I was after.

So yes it is possible, but if the loss adjuster doesn’t budge speak to your insurance company.

These guys have a YouTube Channel following some of their recoveries which are quite interesting:

https://www.youtube.com/c/AutomatricsMtrack

Their units use GPS/GSM and RF to assist them in locating the hardware.

In their older videos there's a couple of RRS SVR and RR's being tracked.

I've never used them or had anything to do with them other then watching some of their videos.
