Finished my Bluetooth module install. Added an extension to the Fibre Optic cable and used 3M high bond double sided tape to fix the module in place.

That's neat Smile

Where did you get the fibre extension from? Mine is tucked down the side as the fibre wouldn't reach. Didn't realise extensions were readily available.

Hi David

When I first got my car I had to repair the MOST cables as someone had bodged them using super glue.

So I bought a cable cutter, loose cable and various connectors from eBay, Amazon and Alibaba. The extension you see was made from a couple of loop bypass connectors one male and one female from I think eBay.

Finally got around to fitting the engine cover now that I am reasonably confident that work is finished on top of the engine.

I have replaced the sound deadening/insulation with foil covered 10mm sticky back sound deadening, like this...

I will keep a close eye on temperatures to ensure all is well.
Hopefully the engine will now sound much quieter.

Also, fitted a new lower tailgate rubber button cover.
You might think that a bit trivial to mention here but it is the third one I have bought.

This time I removed the tailgate trim, fitted the new rubber and then reinstalled the trim. The securing lugs have clicked into place better than trying to install with trim in place.

Seems to be much more secure but if it comes away again I will bond it in place.

Ha!

I've seen it mentioned in multiple places that those rubber tailgate buttons are a total PITA!

I tried the first time to do it in situ but gave up. Now I just remove the trim every time. It’s been missing on both of the L322’s I’ve bought so has been refitted straight away when I’ve got them home.

It’s the stupid things like that which annoy you every time you open the boot.

Agree with both of you, I wonder if its because they are now new old stock and are therefore harder than when originally manufactured. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Cant believe how long its been I last updated this thread, but its been Christmas, holidays a bout of covid and bad weather ( I have to work outside)

So good weather arriving means time to get on with a few jobs.

First job is to adjust the handbrake as it appeared on the last MOT as an advisory. Got the car jacked up and on stands and removed the wheels.
It was obvious that the discs had to go, released handbrake on nearside to remove the disc, but the offside one just fell off so that's the advisory sorted just needed adjusting. The retaining screw needed some persuasion to let go with a lump hammer and impact driver.
The pads were hardly worn so the previous owner had put good pads on poor discs.
Final jobs bolt everything back together and adjust handbrake.

So on to the next job..... Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Yes I agree, very satisfying.

But also what really pleased me was that there was no sign of backplate rust, the calliper pistons moved easily and the sliders were nice and smooth.

On top of that all the bushes I could easily see showed no sign of visible deterioration, especially the subframe bushes. However there are signs of surface rust every where, nothing serious, so I will need to address that sometime.

My subframe bushes looked great from the sides, it was only when I removed the frame that you could see them deteriorating on the top where they mount to the body.

Thanks David, not quite sure how to respond to that, think I will just cross my fingers and hope for the best. Whistle Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

New day, new problem
Did a longer test drive found a non busy hill to test handbrake only to find that it is rubbish.

So back up on the stands and readjust, I'm sure that I did the "8 clicks back" correctly and I know the shoes are in good condition, so based upon previous experience of this kind of adjuster I'm convinced that 8 clicks is wrong, previously I've backed off until the wheel is free to rotate.

So unless any of you say otherwise that is what I will do tomorrow.

I adjusted the brakes as I said above to no avail.

So I decided that I would replace everything with new, so I have ordered new shoes, springs and retainers to go with the new discs and pads.

When that arrives I will strip the whole lot down clean and lubricate where appropriate and replace other items if required so that I end up with an entirely new rear braking system.
