This has been discussed a few times I think. Usually ends up at a discussion about the torque limits of the gearbox and the standard car already being at it….

Yeah, I know what you are saying. I’m sure I saw a video of a guy driving his remapped 4.4 this week somewhere.

It might be worth you reading the WM to see the difference between UK spec with DPF and Australian spec 4.4’s with no DPF from new.

The person in the video said that his EGR was mapped out rather than removed, which means that engine management won't open the valve during normal operation but will still exercise the valve at start-up or shut-down. This allows the EGR pipe to be blocked/blanked as a preventative against the valve failing to seal properly. Engine management will still ensure that the EGR valve is closed during a DPF regen so that all the extra fuel goes to the catalytic converter to allow the catalytic converter to generate enough heat to burn the carbon in the DPF.

I know the guy in the video I helped in fitting the deployable steps on his car, I had a call from him a few weeks ago asking if I knew of anyone that would fit a new EGR valve for him? could be a possible cause of the remapping |

I’m still not completely clear on the point of trying to delete the EGR and DPF on the 4.4, remap it yes, if you feel that the extra power is needed, get someone who knows what they are doing like JE or Bell, but there aren’t many horror stories of the EGR failing on rhe 4.4 like there are on the 3.6, and as for a DPF delete, if you drive it just in town then once a month go somewhere else and give it a blast to clear it out, pretty simple. I had my 4.4 for 5 years ish and never had an issue with either, with a mix of driving.

Anybody replaced the EGR valve on a 4.4? IME of EGR valves on other Diesel engines their functional efficiency declines over time (irrespective of cleaning with Mr Muscle oven cleaner) and should be treated as a service part. Classic symptoms of a tired EGR are hesitancy when applying throttle and less than smooth gear changes (on manual cars this could destroy dual mass flywheels) and on auto boxes this will put extra stress on them. Any diesel engine with a DPF and EGR when used for short urban trips will end badly for the owner or future owner and where do I see most L322’s……

I have just cleaned out the plenum chamber and throttle body on mine and the difference is staggering, costs nothing and as good as any remap.
