Brake Line Repair

I’ve got a section of corrosion on the brake lines by the fixing on the middle of the underside run. Has anybody else found this area susceptible to corrosion and have you cut and replaced that section only with couplers ?

I know they are steel brake lines so I guess more susceptible to corrosion than a copper alloy. Any advice on repair with with who ? I’m in the Milton Keynes area.

They can be done either way, full pipe or joined with couplers. If your reasonably handy with the spanner’s they are not to difficult to do, a brake pipe flaring tool is available from Halfords or similar as is the cunifer (copper pipe). You would do the job for circa 50 quid doing it yourself. You can get a cheap flaring tool and pipe cutter for around £25. Garage prices you would need to add a couple of hours labour at least and the dreaded VAT Big Cry
And yes they are susceptible to corrosion, we loads do of them.

Thanks for the advice Dave, I don’t think I’ll do them myself, but will look for a garage in the area

Does anybody have any recommendations for the Milton Keyes area for this sort of work ? -------------------------------------

My garage charged me £300 ish I think to replace mine in January, though one had burst….

Get it sorted, mine cost a further £300 odd as it stuffed the master cylinder too…..

There are two front to rear brake pipe joiners behind the NSF wheelarch splash shield sir... If asking a garage to change them, ask them to replace the two flexi's on the rear wishbones too as they rot like pigs as well! Thumbs Up

Can anybody point me to a source for Repair Labour Hours for Jobs ? eg the replacement of the Front to Back Brake Lines of the L322 2012.

The small but well-known Repair Garage in Milton Keynes quoted and charged 3.5 hrs labour to replace both of the Corroded OEM Brake Lines in the photos from this thread. Now last weekend I did an emergency break and burst a brake line. On inspection it was found that the garage had only replaced one of the two corroded lines in the photo, even though they charged and stated at the time that both corroded break lines are to be replaced with Copper Lines. The photo was taken actually taken on the ramp at the repair garage.

They asked me to bring the car back and now say they need to charge again to replace the original OEM corroded brake line (shown in the original photo) that seemingly had not been replaced. Even though they already charged and stated at the time that it was replaced, but now are denying that the 3.5 hours charged was for both the corroded lines and saying the 3.5hrs recorded on their system job sheet says, ‘brake line repair’. They also say the mechanic has since left the company, so I must understand that. I thought I had contracted and paid the company, rather that the employee of the company. -------------------------------------

See below. Labour to replace flexi pipes was £67.50, rear brake lines, £150, all plus VAT.

Many thanks for the comments.

Now I’ve found the 1 brake line the garage did change is like a snake waving down the underside and not clipped. Is this normal or reasonable for a garage Brake Line repair ?
