United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Gentlemen of Salvage have just called back.

They've been superb. Unfortunately they don't have another transfer box so they've advised that if I remove it and put it back on the pallet they'll have it collected and refund me.

They've even said that as I've made them aware of the fault they're happy enough if I wait until I've got a replacement before removing it so the car is mobile.

10 out of 10 to them for service and efficiency though. I'd use them again in a heart beat.

I spoke to Rob at Duckworths earlier on and he gave me 3 prices for a new transfer box.

1. Genuine LR - £4300 after I return them the old box, it’s £5k if I don’t.
2. OEM - £1430 + VAT
3. Reconditioned - £785 + VAT

Looking online a used one is anywhere between 250 and 400 quid so rather then taking a risk on another used one that could be just as bad, I’m going to take the plunge and order a reconditioned one and a couple of litres of oil. Thumbs Up 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

New transfer box ordered this morning. Should be here on Tuesday so it looks like I'll be whipping this one out again at some point over the weekend!

Just praying to god now that I'm right and it is the transfer box that's whining!

The breakers that supplied it have been great in taking it back and I’m not sure of anywhere that could spin it up so I’m just going to swap it out.

The new one is ordered now anyway Smile

I’m now decided that I’m just going to give this one a full driveline refresh and be done with it.

I have been following this thread, hope there is light at the end of the tunnel once you get the recon unit. Thumbs Up Fingers now crossed.

As an aside, I have previously used Gentlemen of salvage for parts for an old Toyota that my daughter used to have, I was after a brake carrier that is no longer made by anyone, and other parts. The service I received was first class and the guys I dealt with were happy to share their knowledge. Thumbs Up

I’ve got absolutely no complaints regarding Gentlemen of Salvage. They’ve been “gentlemen” about everything.

I tried to save money with a used part. Some you win, some you loose. They’ve agreed to take it back with no quibbles exactly as they’re eBay listing says they would. I’d use them again in a heartbeat.

I removed the transfer box again yesterday afternoon in preparation for the new one arriving.

The oil in it was nice and golden when it went in 120 miles ago and it's come out black and looking at it with the torch it looks like there might be tiny metallic bits in it so I'm fairly confident I've got the source of the noise right.

Both propshafts were checked by ATE propshafts in today and confirmed as OK so fingers crossed that normal service will resume ASAP! The new box is due to be delivered tomorrow or Wednesday as far as I'm aware so fingers crossed!

It's not nice, is it!

I've ordered 2 litres of the genuine LR Special Transfer Box Oil along with the new transfer box from Duckworths so hopefully all will be good shortly!

It's not difficult taking it apart but it's getting tedious doing the same job 3 times over just now! Rolling Eyes

It won't feel so tedious mate when you look at the labour costs that you've saved
