I think you may have an issue as it came on after a run back from Cornwall and has not gone out after 2 runs. Careful as you may run into a red. Grab an iid and you can look at soot levels, egt temps, dpf pressure voltage etc. Without it, running blind.

Had to go to a customer site today, no other transport. Engine got warm, about 10 mins on motorway, the warning went off. Not sure if it was because i was on the last 1/4 tank from Cronwall towing and it had built up, and the 2 runs had not been long enough to clear it all out , but thankfully its all sorted again. It was a similar issue a few years ago when towing up in the lakes, had plenty of fuel but speed was less than 40 for 50 miles or so, and pottered about for a week never getting higher than 40. Quick run on a dual carriageway cleared that one.

solution found!

Hello Guys,
Firs of all many thanks to all of You who contributed in finding a solution for the "RED problem - DPF fill Visit Dealer"!
Special thansk to Greg (GGDR) for his eforts and hard work, Mike (Baltic Blue), and Matt (Range Rover L322)!
The biggest "Thanks" of course goes to Patrick from GAP who provided the slution which I tested and confirmed it is working!

My story started a week ago with a cracked hose (original) on my way back home from holiday. I had to drive something like 180km in "Restricted performance" which obviously filled the DPF to the top. Sevaral stops on my way for short brakes cleared the restricted performance warning, but it appered again shortly after.
Next day the original hose was replaced by a silicone hose purchased locally (20cm for 9Euro), but several kilometers after driving (not more than 20) RED warning light appered. Tank was almost empty so most probably that was the reason why regeneration didn't started.

Spent several days serching for information and I ended up here Smile
I contacted Patrick from GAP to provide me the latest Beta with the DPF regeneration function which currently is Beta 2765 and he did immediately, so I updated my IID tool and went for a ride. Filled the tank to the top, checked for error codes - 1 present:

Cleared the code succesfully and went direction highway.
Started the dynamic regeneration process from the IID tool - it was showing 31.4g at the beggining. Shortly after DPF soot mass started to drop. WOW it seems it is working Smile

Toook something like 30km and it went down to 1g (once it drops below 6 or 7g DPF soot mass becomes green which means it was successfully performed). Please note that all this was done in limp mode and the RED warning was there all the time even when the concetration goes bellow 6g You still have it and the car is still in limp mode. According to the description in the IID tool once You reach concentration of less than 6g You should stopp the preocedure with the "quit" button and stop the engine. "Quit" button is not available befor You stop the car, so I pulled over - the vehicle speed becomes red as the minimum is 25mph and then Quit button is available. So I stopped the regeneration with the "quit" button and then stopped the engine. Took a cigarete went out of the car and locked it.
5 minutes later unlocked and started the engine - OHhhh MIRACLE...... RED warning is gone!
Checked live date with IID tool - reading 0.3g of soot
Turned back home at the firs exit which was 3km away. During that 3 km. soot maas increased very fast to 10.5g, so I thought there could be another leak, so I started to monitor the fill rate and record the data. Put the cruise control to 140km/h and the resuls are:
starting from 10.5g after
5km. - 11.6g
another 5km - 11.8g
..5km - 11.9g
5km - 12g
5km - 12.2g
5km - 12.5g
and I was at the end of the highway.
Another 11km city driving and I was home at 15.4g. Differential pressure sensor voltage at idle 0.7V - 0.8V

Oil dilution looks good, but I will change it soon anyway - screenshot is done before the regeneration.

So that's it more or less!

I will apreciate if someone can share some details on how high pressure smoke test is performed. What do You need to do it? What is the procedure? Etc...

Thanks for adding this very helpful post Bow down
I have upgraded my iid tool to include the forced regen facility, but not needed to use it yet, so I am particularly pleased to see the screenshot showing the way you can see the soot mass displayed whilst the regen is in progress.
I was wondering how it displays so that you can see the soot mass falling.
Does the temperature reading vary much whist it is in progress ??

You say the procedure for the iid ?.?
Does that display somewhere or have you read it elsewhere ?

Unfortunately I didn't check the temerature readings of the DPF sensors as I had to go back to the live values and I was afraid not to interupt the regeneration process.

I have just been out to try doing a forced regen.
My iid is on version 2764 and I couldn’t get it to work, so came home and contacted Pat.
Will add more later.

Rob,
I am keen to be able to manage my soot levels such that I end every decent length run with virtually no soot.
I am pretty good at knowing when I need to go out and do a burn, but usually this results in me doing a long run to compensate for lots of local trips rather than because I need to go somewhere.
You are right though , it is running well and I don’t want to upset that.

Hi Dimitar, great write up and brilliant to hear you are sorted.

One thing to note. The oil dilution figure is not a sensor. It is an estimated calculation taken from the number of regens done. I understand a dash warning will come up if it ever reaches the number, which few people have. So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I was a little bit concerned from the numbers of the demanded regenerations which was close to 2000 before the RED warning came and now they are more than 8000, but it seems it is all fine.

The latest beta 2765 update to the iid is BRILLIANT Bow down Bow down

I have now used the Forced regen facility and will show the results in a few new iPad screenshots.

The speed is only showing zero on each screenshot because I had to pull into convenient lay-bys to get the screenshots without stopping the engine and the regen process restarts as soon as the speed exceeds 40mph.

I started from home with a soot level reading of 16.3G.

After 6 miles on the A55 at. 50mph the temperatures were up at 90c and the soot level started falling very steadily over the next 3 to 4 miles until it was reading 93c. and soot level of 3.4g.

I turned round at the next junction to return home.

When I left the A55 I stopped and pressed the QUIT button, by which time it was reading 0.6g.

It actually looks like the reading is 6g , but I had watched it fall from 3 to 2 to 1g then 9 to 8 which I guessed was actually 0.9 to 0.8 to 0.6g, and this was confirmed when….



I went back to my normal live values screen and bingo !!!

I have monitored many Active regens but they have never got to such low values… 1.9g is the best I have ever seen before this forced regen .

It means that I no longer have to go out specially to get the soot level down, but can choose to bring the level down when I am making needed journey.
