Hi all, whilst on holiday my drivers side step has started to misbehave. I have had a couple of issues before this with my passenger step but all fixed with some lubrication and has been working as good as gold ever since.
The drivers step extracts but only retracts to approx 50%. It appears to be working as it should other than it is not fully retracting.

The step also seems to try to rest itself if I drive at low speed as it it knows it is not fully retracted.

Have tried to solve with disconnecting the battery and have added some lubrication but it’s the motor that appears to be locking.

Um no sir, the motors work on torque to stop the step if it feels like ss leg has gotten stuck... This means, when the motor gets worn it stops either deploying or retracting...

So do I deduce from this Craig a new motor is likely to be the remedy. Thanks.

Assume there is no test/reset in the software? mine are acting up too.. driver side will come out a little and stop...without fully extending or retracting so it's stuck in a sort of in between. Some times come out a bit then go back in. Passanger side is doing this too now....comes out, then goes back. Frustrating as hell. Great mod.....when they work. But they have been nothing but a PITA for a few months now.

I've found if I "help it" by pulling or pushing when I open ot close the door it will come down and/or retract but obviously this shouldnt be needed. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

I believe that if they sense a restriction of any sort they stop deploying or retracting. So initial inspection for any mud/rocks etc and then liberally lubricate and check freedom of movement of linkages.

If still under warranty, dont put it off, get the car straight into the a Dealership.

did find that my drivers side worked for a few days after taking it through a car wash. Might try crawling under with a power washer and then try lubing again as a final try.

I also noticed I can hear a "click"....almost sounds like a pebble hitting the step when the driver side retracts/deploys. Not sure what that is.

Anyone know where the sensor is on these that detects an obstacle? Maybe I need to clean that? 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

I lubed mine and they started working perfectly and still are (I wish I hadn't just said that). They were playing up. Geoff

I sprayed some white lithium grease where I thought they were pivoting (pins go through the bracket).....but didnt seem to make much of a difference. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Try lubricating with garage door silicone spray won't attract dirt and will get right into the linkages.

Sorry the brands we have Australia would not be in the USA .
You should fit this spray at any hardware shop. Home Depo. etc.

I just used what I had, it was actually the stuff I use on my bike chain - just thin oil spray but I did douse everything. Geoff
