Haylands answer is the one to follow, unless you have a specialist refurbishment company near you.

Had a similar issue when I bought a new to me 2010 322. New prices were mental, as I’d only had it 2 weeks, it was being covered by the ropey 2nd hand car dealer warranty which wouldn’t stretch to the huge expense main dealers wanted. I ended up with a remanufactured rack which iirc was around £700 ish plus fitting, which took it to just over a grand all in . Getting a remanufacture is money well saved as long as you have alternative means of transport. Think they are ZF units . |

Price is on par with other similar brands…. It’s not a corsa or escort. 2-3k for a rack is no surprise to me. This is a large luxury car, servicing and maintenance costs are similar to BMW, Mercedes etc. |

Due to work commitments, no space at home or the inclination in overhauling it myself, refurbished is the way to go.

Lion Automotive come highly recommended on the Disco forum for reconditioned steering racks.

Thanks KN I've just sent them an email. See what they can do for me. Would I be right in thinking that new racks need to be programmed to the car? |

I don't believe so. I think it's just a case of removing the old one and refitting the new one.

No a replacement rack doesn't need any programming. Fit, fill with fluid, bleed & test & then forget / use as normal. I was really lucky & got a good second hand rack via local RR breaker for £90 & was able to fit it myself.
