Any jack recommendations???

I’m looking to buy a jack and some stands for my l322.

I read on other posts to get a 3 tonne jack but do you need that? You only ever jack one corner at a time so not lifting the entire car… or is the “3 tonne” classification for leavening a car of that weight?

I’m interested in the jacking height too.

What do other members recommend for a jack and stands for occasional driveway maintenance? Ideally nothing that will break the bank… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

I have found this… it’s cheap but seems suitable?

Higher weight capacity jacks will give you a better safety factor. The higher rated jacks are generally physically larger and have a higher lift ( Distance wise ) which is bloody handy when dealing with a FFRR.

Used mine yesterday to service my daughters Insignia, by the time it was up on two tonne axle stands I could use a trolley slider like the below to get under the car in total comfort, as my 3.5 tonne trolley jack will lift very high.

Not cheap, but a jack like this one is a good example.

+1 for that SGS Engineering one, I've recently changed rear shocks and lower hub bushes on my L322 and it worked a treat. Very solid and stable and easy to carry.

Hope this helps,

I've got an sgs high lift 3 tonne one and some of their large axle stands. Yes you don't need a 3 tonne Jack but it's still not light to lift even with the 3 tonne Jack and there is huge suspension travel so for me I wouldn't use anything less. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

I have an Omega 29024-PU jack. I bought it several years ago for the bargain price of £45 new. It's a great jack, but when it comes to the time to renew it, I'll probably go for the 3 tonne SGS one mentioned above.

In terms of stands, I have four of these 6 tonne ones...
https://www.sgs-engineering.com/jsr6-ratchet-axle-stands

They go from 395mm to 605mm and have a nice large footprint for stability. They are perfect for holding up the Range Rover...

Personally, I don't like using 3 tonne stands on these vehicles because you have to extend them a fair bit and the footprint isn't great. Here's a comparison of my 3 tonne stands vs my 6 tonne ones...

Those axle stands are now on my expensive shopping list. I think the extra size is worth the expense… although out of stock at the moment. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Another Thumbs Up for the SGS 3T, I got a good deal with a couple of 6T axle stands, it’s the not the lightest bit of kit but does the job nice and safely.

So following the suggestions from people, I am favouring this jack and stands combo…
https://www.sgs-engineering.com/tj3x-jsr-3...xle-stands

3 tonne jack and 2 x 4 tonne ratchet axle stands.

I believe the 4 tonne stands are enough, (although there are heavier tonnage ones available) but do shout if you think 4T isn’t enough… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

The 4 tonne ones will be fine. I have the 6 tonne ones and you need it up really high to start with to get them under the chassis etc to lower onto so do tend to use my 3 tonne ones more.

The trolley Jack I have is the tj3 one which goes to 520mm high so double check the one you've linked will raise it high enough with the full suspension travel though is all I'd suggest Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

I too have the SGS offering. No complaints as yet, but thus far has seen only limited use.
My other jack an Arcan XL30R (also 3 tonne low profile) has seen more action.

Both had key roles in the exercise to replace the starter motor earlier in the year to along with an SGS 6 ton (Imperial apparently) axle stand.

The Arcan may be hard to find.
Currently available from Amazon and listed curiously as "Model 30BL", although "XL30R" does appear in the listing text.

Recommend also the use with these of items listed variously as jack/saddle pads.
A selection available on eBay, the smaller diameter disc shapes having a raised "lozenge" section fit quite nicely the sill jacking points on the L322. The larger diameter items usually having a notch cut across the surface with perhaps another at 90 degrees to this can also be useful.
