Deployable side steps.

Hi, Is it possible to leave the side steps deployed when the vehicle is parked and locked?
This is to protect the car from dings in the supermarket car park.
Thanks 2016 SDV8 Autobiography 😀

Hi

I don’t think it is, after reading the steps info.

You can set the steps, to remain out..... but this is lost when you lock the car.

Hope this helps. Range Rover 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I’d be worried about someone catching the sidesteps and doing some damage, they would be expensive to replace

Interesting, today parked up near the local forest to exercise the family and the dog, and I was parked on a sideways incline.
The side steps didn't deploy when I got out, and the car was set on normal driving.
Must be an inclinometer fitted I thought. Grinning to myself thinking this car never stops to amaze me. Very Happy

Yet when I returned, they deployed when I opened the door as normal. Exclamation Question Its so clever lol

But agree it would be good to have a roof access mode, so you can wash the roof without having the door left open, or access roof rack etc 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

this is from an old thread relating to the L322 but 'might' work on the L405,

1. TO LOCK STEPS OUT

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (drivers lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Warning light in switch illuminates and stays on
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch goes out
➢ Normal operation thereafter

2. TO LOCK STEPS IN

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (drivers lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Warning light in switch flashes twice
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch flashes three times
➢ Normal operation thereafter ... - .- -.

There is No button on MY18 L405 they operate automatically only on door opening and closing, its a software improvement maybe to be able to manually deploy them. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Thats correct Stan, I came across it in mine. They stay out until you lock the car then they revert. ------------------------------------------

I’m sure there is a way of putting the steps into roof access mode, I use it when I go to the car wash to stop them going in and out all the time.
Go to your side steps menu and select the mode. I’m sure you have to have the suspension dropped and be in park. Now open the drivers door and select the mode. Both steps will come out and stay out when you close the door.

I’m sure the mode will turn off once you raise the car or select drive. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old
2009 Disco HSE - nice and practical alternative when I needed the space.
VW T5 Transporter - mid life crisis perhaps
2017 FFRR 4.4AB - best car I’ve ever owned

Interestingly, I have the fixed steps on mine and I have never caught anything on them or damaged them in any way. They do act as a buffer against car doors banging into mine! Very Happy Very Happy
