Don’t worry about it....
Mine has been showing this fault ever since I bought my iid., with no ill effects. (at least3 years )

Your mechanic didn't read my 'how to' guide!!

Not the first tie I've heard this happening - at a garage too!
Shameful, for me it's just common sense.

Maybe commercial pressures prevent the plug gas / WD40 multi-day soak but still now you're stuck with it.

As Mike said, most cases are usually fine to leave it.

Can someone please confirm a link to the L405 replacement of the EGR Sensor A? I've read all posts on this but spotted a battery in one of the photos and assumed it was a L322 thread. A link or a couple of photos will suffice.

Thanks GGDR for this outstanding write up, carried out this today went pretty well thanks to the heads up in particular, specific tools - the flex head ratchet a must.
I found removing the fuel filter & pipe harness helpful, heat shields are truly awful, but the stainless securing bolts undo ok.
Put a load of rag along the bottom of the “hole “ to catch everything I drop !
Take the advice in the write up & plenty of penetrating oil this is doable, despite what it looks like initially.

I had this on my 11.5my 322 and it caused massive over-fueling issues! Bought my 405 and guess what! Yep, same again and it stank like an old ice cream van!

I think some maybe fail in an open circuit manor and some fail in a closed or short circuit manor?

My failure on the 322 kept overfilling the DPF! Regen after regen until BONG! red light DPF FULL! Thats why I had it changed on the 405 instantly after finding the code! Thumbs Up

Homemade lubrication Lance, worked a treat.
Stanley inspection camera, flexi tube and bottle of plus gas. Getting my sensor replaced and helping the mechanics out first. Had a look at the space and it’s tight access, good luck to them 😂

Craig - does the sensor sometimes fail (in one of your 2 options) but sometimes not show the code in your experience? I am still chasing an issue on a family friend's car. Documented here: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic54864-75.html
It is clearly trying to regen (a lot!!!) but the temp doesn't go above 600, the oil in dilution is increasing too quickly and the soot keeps going up and doesn't do any active burns. It does do micro burns and brings it down about 1 g on a longish run. We had a force regen done (it took a while to get it initiated) but it's still doing the same i.e. demanded regens go up, oil diln goes up, soot goes up, bank 1 sensor 2 doesn't go above 600, coolant temp is normal around 94'C. Something is clearly not right and it's bloody annoying Evil or Very Mad

Rob,
I will just add to my highlighted comment above.

It was the local independent garage in Oldham that recommended to do nothing with the sensor on mine because I have never had a DPF warning light.
He told me about one he changed that broke the manifold as they tried to get it out, so Greg’s tip of a weeks of penetrating oil first is definitely worth doing if you attempt the job.

One other point that I would love to prove right or wrong, he was adamant that presence of the alarm inhibits his diagnostic laptop device from doing a forced regen.

Hi All. I am currently in the process of changing this sensor based on your excellent write up.

I am up to the stage of pluging-in and checking the new sensor, before attempting to remove the old one. Air duct is out, and the battery tray removed, plus the WD 40 soak is on the 5th day. Tomorrow is the big day...

I must admit, I am struggling to get a spanner anywhere near the heat shield bolts.

Anyway, the main reason of doing this job, other than clear the code is my car won't come out of "Limp Mode" and I have already changed the parts associated to LM with no codes, other than the the EgT sensor, of course. This includes:

- turbo inter-cooler top hose
- plenum inlet Manifold including the 4 small hoses
- MAF sensors (just in case).

But Limp Mode remains.

My question is can this fault cause LM, Restricted Performance " ?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a photo, taken with my Endoscope, which clearly shows the rediculous heat shield design.

Bit confused about identifying which sensor is actually bad.

P040D-00 (2F) Exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor A - circuit high

On the L322 there appears to be four sensors, i.e. Bank 1 - Sensors 1 to 3, & Bank 2 - Sensor 1.

On the L405 there appears to be five sensors, i.e. Bank 1 - Sensors 1 to 3, & Bank 2 - Sensors 1 to 2.

Having the fault on the L405 and it seems to be Bank 1 Sensor 2 that is showing 0 volts according to IID Tool.

Is it actually the same sensor location, just with a different name, across the two models?

MTG2020 - not sure having this code will affect your RP. Some mechanics will insist there must be no error codes but I'm not so sure. What I suggest is you buy and plug in a new sensor (around £75) and then, without going to the trouble of doing the impossible job, you can try to clear codes and see if that removes your RP. Assume you have an IIDTool ?

Mike - someone here has done it on a 405, scroll back through the earlier pages. It's the same sensor because it's the same engine. Up to a certain date that is; some point LR (well Ford) revised the part and it didn't seem to fail anymore. As above, try unplugging the sensor and/or plugin in the new sensor to double check. Location of connector as per my guide.

Hi G. I have since replaced the throttle body and still have the RP issue. My last hope is the EGT, as I now have the added issue of not bring able to regenerate the DPF and have a intermittent red "go to dealer" warning. Deep joy....

I am in the middle of replacing the EGT sensor. I have moved the heat shield out of the way but don't see how you get the 115mm socket extention any where near the nut. I have snipped the top of the sensor using 14"bolt cuters, but think in need to take a bit more off. I will cut under the corrugated section with my dremel flexible attachment tomorrow.

I don't suppose you have any pictures showing the position of the socket extention setup on the nut?
