Upgrade to modern beam wiper blades

So I’ve been plagued with noisy, streaking, rubbish old style wipers. Have had the same problem on both RRs and my D2.
Being unable to get replacements from any of the motor spares places in my area and unable to get refills to fit properly I decided to modify the original arms to fit new style beam blades as fitted to things like Audi VW Mercs etc.
I was able to get a set of arms complete with blades from a write off 2018 VW Touareg.
I chopped off the end of the VW arm and my RR arm and welded the VW end on to the RR arm.
After a bit of tidying up and paint the new blade fits perfectly and looks as good as a factory item.
They also work brilliantly. No juddering, streaks or noise.
The early Touareg blades are shorter at 600 mm but driver side blades from a 2019 Touareg, Audi Q7 are longer at the correct length of 650mm. And they save the same fitting.
Have a look yourselves.

I'm left confused, what is old fashioned about the originals and what is the difference between those and modern ones?

In addition I'm also surprised, having the same car and model year about blaming the design for being noisy and streaky. In my experience noisy and streaky comes with simply being worn, or a bad windscreen. Including the supply issue, I just double checked I ordered proper Bosch via Amazon for next day delivery. Nice and quiet, easy to fit, and remains solid even at German autobahn speeds say 120mph plus Smile

Nice Thumbs Up
Also, HQ blades off ebay (<£20) fit the original arms. Just rip off all the plastic Censored off the end of the arms

+1 for the HQ blades. Easy fit and quiet.

The old blades were worn out and all the joints were loose that’s why they were noisy. They thumped at top and bottom of travel. I have found it difficult to get original replacements or even after market ones as none of the spares shops list for L322. And the refills don’t fit. Windscreen is new. Rubber part of blade is new but frame is old. Amazon in oz is crap.
Last time I enquired at my local LR dealer there were none showing in stock in the state of Victoria and would be 2 days from NSW. Supply may be easier in Europe but it’s a bit different here in Australia.

I just happened to have a set of arms and blades from a VW and modified my arms to fit the blades. As these blades are available at all motor spares places.

HQ blades in Oz refer to an old Holden ( old Vauxhall/Opel Carlton) certainly won’t fit L322.

This was discussed a few years ago. Fitted some Continental ones to my TD6 at the time. Done the same to my TDV8.

I had no problem getting new replacement units from my local LR indie. I'll have a look for the part no.

For the rear, see my posts in this thread: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic58527.html (scroll down the page).

They work very well.

I noticed the indie had your style of blade in stock for another model LR. The next time I'm there, I'll have a look at them. Ron B. VK2OTC

"noisy, streaking,"
i had that problem some time ago, parts guy said its because the blades are plastic.
he sold me some rubber ones, never had the problem since RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Hey @andyducati

Would love to know more about this mod, I picked up some vw arms as you described but they seem wider so I'm not sure how I'll be able to blend them with the l322 arms.

Are these the ones you used?

In the interest of completeness, I had originally picked up the wider version of these which do not fit as flush with original blades, so if taking this on made sure you get the narrow version. They look identical with the square button but one is narrower than the other. Sorry I can't remember which car it came from in the end as it was a box of them at the wreckers.
