I had to remove the PCV valve off the valve cover but other than that I was able to wiggle in and out as needed by just pushing or shoving hoses etc out of the way. A smarter more experienced mechanic may have chosen to make their life easier by moving more stuff, but I'm paranoid about breaking something else, so I resist that urge whenever possible. 2009 L322 SC

I would have done the same with the PCV valve but it had a 25mm approx. wiring harness over it that I couldn't move obviously held down in a way that I couldn't see so rather than do any damage I moved that device in the picture out of the way.
I still do not know what that device is, does anyone know?

At long last the weather has been kind and I've managed to fit the Tow Bar (purchased from Tom Heath on this forum).
I stripped it back and gave it two coats of Hammerite smooth.
The rear bumper cover came off very easily but I found out that just pulling it off is not the best idea, but better to release the clips on the sides, I used a plastic trim removal tool.

Removing the bumper itself was easy, but its useful to have an air ratchet to spin the nuts off as it would take ages with a spanner/socket as there is very little space to get a decent swing.

Lifting the armature into place is a heavy job but I used a pair of trolley jacks because i could lift and move it into place, the one thing I didn't want was to be underneath it if it fell





The rest of the job was very simple, I added mastic to the joint faces and torqued everything up 45nm for the bumper bolts and 165nm for the tow bar "arms".

Replaced all the rusty bumper cover clips with new stainless ones and will use a set of stainless screws to refit the bumper cover.
All in all I was a little concerned that doing this by myself would be difficult but it proved to be quite simple just a little heavy and a cold pint soon sorted that!

I purchased the camera on this forum, originally supplied by https://www.luxurylandroverupgrades.com/product-page/llru-camera

Here is the original module dismantled, I just pulled the old wiring out and drilled through potting compound in the cable entry



I then installed the camera into the original shell, ran sealant around the edges before closing and then sealed the cable exit.




The jack plug was a tight fit through the grommet aided by some lube. Then using the supplied adapter cable connected to the original connectors in the tailgate. The power connector is not keyed so the polarity needs to be checked (I made a mistake and blew the fuse)

I now have a much better picture, but obviously it is not perfect due to the quality of the Denso screen.

Just got the car back from Alan Smiths Garage who I used to catch up on my plan, as I ran out of time and also I ran out of the determination to do everything myself.
So here is my updated plan



I have booked in to Alan Smiths to look after the gearbox, so I can now concentrate on getting the rust sorted by visiting a couple of body shops for a quote.

I've finally managed to get my iidtool working, but not by repairing my diagnostic socket. I have yet to get around to doing that.
However I suddenly had a thought and purchased a 300mm extension cable and my iidtool now works just fine.

It does raise the question as to why this should happen, Gap told me that the iidtool meets the specification for pin dimensions, however 4 other diagnostic tools work in my socket the only tool that doesn't work is my iidtool.

So on to work, the first job was to reflash my bluetooth module, I tried three times but it failed with the error code E4, I cannot find anything relating to error codes for the iidtool. Prior to reflashing my phone connected ok, but now that doesn't work
Its not a major issue because I cant remember the last time I needed to use my phone in the car. It's just that because something is fitted I like it to work. I'll probably end up buying a later version of the module at some point.

I scanned for faults, cleared all the codes that the scan found and rescanned. I know that I still have an outstanding issue with a P0171 code that came up a while ago but for now it has gone away. I suspect it will be back once I get to use the car again. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Tried to replace both cubby box dampers today

Looking at Rave it should be a simple job to get the cubby box liner out.

Loosened the gear lever surround and unscrewed to centre console finisher, that gave me enough room to unscrew the liner and remove it. Not as straight forward as I thought as the 12v socket is fitted with a lighting ring (but no bulb or wiring) which would not allow me to remove the socket from the liner so it was a bit tight getting the liner out.

I've decided that I dont need dampers on my cubby box!

Proved to be rather more difficult than Rave suggests and I'm not built to get to the rear of the console to release the two expanding rivets let alone reach to disconnect the electrics. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Wow! That's so much more difficult than mine were.

It's no help to you, unfortunately, but the 2012 cubby box dampers are a lot easier to replace.

I really thought that removing the liner would expose the damper linkages.

Took the bluetooth module out and stripped it down to see if I could fix it. A bonus is that the module had already been upgraded by Adrian Wiggans at bluetoothexchange.co.uk. The circuit board was clearly suffering from water ingress...
