Reduced performance P006A fault - solved

Ive had a reduced performance fault come up since stripping down to do the idlers.
Checked iiD & got P006A-00(64) only shows code in advanced mode it wasn't showing any fault when checking for faults in normal mode.
So looks to be a leak on the intake system somewhere.

Looks like I have the later hoses on the manifold so less likely to be them but not impossible.
One thing I think maybe lose is the pipe that goes on the throttle body (one with MAP sensor?) Does anyone know what the pipe is called & if the seal is replaceable? Pipe in rjff's photo below.

Also had a panick after road test when loads of smoke billowing past me from rear when pulled up, thinking turbos!! But looks like I need a rear caliper adding to the list of jobs Big Cry

Rob.

looks like it could be your inlet manifold has a minute crack in it. you will need a HIGH pressure smoke test to check (cheap to get done).

My pax side went (they are prone to small cracks as they flex under the pressure of 2 turbos apparently) but the dvr side is as prevalent. Some say replace both at the same time but I only did one and it's been fine since.

Hi Rob

I recall the fitting to the throttle body has what appears to be a loose fit. Haven't changed mine so far and it's still OK. (it'll go soon having said that). AFAIK the seal is not availabel on its own and is not a simple o ring, having lips on it.

As DB says a high pressure smoke test may help, but before that perhaps clean the sensor in the pipe you refer to, (Temperature of inlet air?). You have to take the part off as the sensor is "glued" in. Also the MAP sensor, which is on the top front of the donut. But you may have done those already.

??that much smoke from the brakes, wow. Cheers

Thanks for the advice gent's, I'll give the other sensor on doughnut a clean also.
Hopefully not the manifold as that looks like another pig of a job..
I was moving the clean air intake pipework about as wrestling with removing the shroud could the but wasn't touching the doughnut or manifold area although this could have happened as coincidence.

Also need to get back under it & re check all the pipework. Can't drive it until the brakes are done so I'll do a smoke test & take it from there.

Anyone done a home smoke test? Assume pressure isn't that high & looking on YouTube seems straight forward with a bike pump or tyre compressor.
Blank off airboxes & go in through intercooler top hose to throttle body.

Yeah the brakes were HOT!! Better not have cooked the bearing.

manifold inlet replace is a pig. it involves the injector leads coming off etc. Mine cost £1600 all in for pax side only.

Let's hope it's not that then Dolphinboy!

Rjff how clean should the MAF in the doughnut be?
It was covered in gunk! Should the 4 indentation be clear? I've sprayed with contact cleaner & gently wiped but don't want to get too aggressive with cleaning it

The doughnut has a bit of black sludge in it also, is that normal?

I'd say that's pretty well caked up. As far as I'm aware all of the little holes should be clear.

Google the part number and see if you can see a picture of a new one from that angle.

mine had 2-3mm of crap on it when i cleaned it. I only cleaned it as i was changing the oil cooler and had no faults other than the customary oil leak. Shocked
i cleaned it with electrical cleaner till it looked like new have had no issues so far and i have covered 1000 miles since the work. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Thanks for the link David looks like mines the same gunk as in that.
On 135k & doubt it's been cleaned so looks like the doughnut is coming off for a clean.

There is a separate thread somewhere about the throttle body fitting. Try taking the silver clip off and tightening it between fingers then refit it. I replaced the whole unit with a brand new one and it was still a little loose onto the ali throttle body Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I clean mine every 6 months at the same time I do the oil service, just as a way of remembering to do it.

Rob

Sorry about the late reply but all the guys are right, it's clogged. I clean mine with contact cleaner until it's like the one Mike shows and do it at the oil changes too. No. probs so far

As to the donut, mine was lousy with C**P, cleaned as best when I did the hoses, trying not to leave bits likely to fall off into the inlets. It gets that way from the EGR gasses coming in. Cheers

Subject to being able to test drive it once I replace the front air springs & calliper I’ve hopefully found the issue.
Had to replace a bolt in the fan shroud & stripped underneath again, discovered the bottom hose had partially blown off the actuator. Looks like I hadn’t tightened a jubilee clip as it was lose Embarassed
