FBH Parking heater as auxiliary or engine pre-heater?

Is it possible to program the L322 (TDV8, 07) to utilise the FBH as an auxiliary/engine pre heater instead of a parking heater when activated by remote prior to starting the engine?

On my previous L320 TDV8, the FBH was used as an aux heater to pre-heat the entire engine prior to starting.

I've had a look withi the IID tool settings and can't find anything that would allow that to be selected?

I’ve not heard of that before. I know it comes on once you have started the engine to help it warm up in cold weather.

We’re there extra options for running it on the L320 then?

Doesn't the FBH heat the cabin by heating the coolant & thus the heater matrix?

Yeah, but I’m imagining the question is for the engine only. I can’t imagine the L320 having a different system to the L322 though. It can heat the engine coolant with the engine off, but only when it’s heating the interior also.

I put the instructions for the FBH into the Wiki a bit back… pretty sure there is nothing in the instructions either.

The early L319 / L320 have different plumbing, the FBH was only intended as a boost heater when the engine was running and the exterior temperature below 4 deg. C., consequently, if a remote control or timer was added, due to there being no coolant valves to control the circulation dependent on the running / parked state of the vehicle, the whole coolant circuit was heated, thereby pre-heating the engine. L322 was specifically designed to have park heating (and has the valves and control logic to allow it) as well as boost heating for the engine. Later L319 / L320 have the option in some markets for park heating with or without remote control, these also have the correct plumbing so that all the heat is directed into the cabin and not 'wasted' on the engine, I suppose you could bypass the valveset so that the engine is pre-warmed (heated is a bit of a stretch) if you really wanted to.

Alas last winter here was the mildest I've known so I only used the FBH / remote on mine once (apart from making sure it worked).

Interesting bit in that manual about the changeover valve; "A changeover valve allows the heater coolant circuit to be isolated from the engine coolant during parked heating, to reduce the warmup time of the passenger compartment". Which seems to indicate my belief that it just heated / circulated coolant (via the engine) was wrong. 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

The FBH (Thermo Top C in L322, Thermo Top V in early L319 / L320) has a circulation pump, if this is not detected as running in park heating or boost heating, the FBH will shut down,.
