Another thank you from me , my son dis the job for me and I guided with your instructions , the L405 is a little different but the guide helped tremendously. I don't think mine was leaking but the old gaskets were flat with hardly any lip protruding from the groves, the new gaskets had quite a lip so hopefully the cooler is all good for a while yet. I changed the 2 o rings on the oil cooler feed and it was difficult enough to get back in requiring quite a bit of persuasion .

Took me 6 hours, a lot of which was cleaning the gunk out of the various parts, then cleaning up the mess on the drive😂
A few fiddly bits but nothing most cant do with an 8mm and 10mm socket just follow the guide👍

A little coolant leaked as i pulled the oil cooler so changed the oil at the same time
New silicone donut hoses added for good measure


Mines a 66k 2011 and had just started sweating oil from the top cooler gasket so Im glad i did it as a preventative measure. viton turbo pipe o rings done again too As you need to disconnect the pipe anyway

Old gaskets were very hard and flat so definitely recommend anyone with an older or higher miler to do this job before it goes to far and the coolant and oil mix

Millers c1 (10litres) oil, gen LR filter and the 2 oil cooler gaskets came in at £120 so a lot of satisfaction and maintenance for little outlay

Who did you buy the parts and oil from??

@Paul thanks so much for the write up I have an oily expansion btl so I assume I have the same issues so will get cracking once I get the parts etc I changed the turbo o rings last night as oil was badly leaking out of the back but after seeing oil in the expansion bottle I assume this is also needing doing lol

Thanks Paul for this brilliant write-up, much clearer than the workshop manual. Managed it in around 3-4hrs in total off and on as the weather permitted. (Fitted new cooler as had stripped thread to oil pipe at rear) Having said that plenty of breaks needed as quite awkward at times. I could have done to have been a foot taller! Took for 40 mile round trip this morning and all appears OK.

Hi sorry for the dumb question, excluding the ) rings are there x2 gaskets required for this job?

x1 block to cooler base part no LR077242
x1 Oil cooler to base ? part no ?

i cannot seem to see the part no for the second one i assume as it is bits you do the lot.

soooo just got car back having had all belts and pullies changed and was told there was spots of oil in coolant oil cooler is leaking so i need to bring this forward now. for speed i have just ordered a new cooler too so it will be just a swap out rather than a big cleaning job as well. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

new cooler arrived today

so i am just part through this job took me 1.5hrs to remove the intake (Got my 11 year old helping) so i reckon it would take me an hour on my own.
intakes are well horrible gonna vac out and scrape as much as i can off the inlet manifolds the inlet i can do on the bench.
Instructions are first class so far really impressed has made the job so much simpler.

cuppa tea then off to remove the oild cooler itself which has been leaking for sometime i guess. I am just swapping out for a new one

Good luck with the job, well worth doing yourself, just remember that when fitting the new one, the bolts don't need to be super tight. WM states 13nm for torque.  2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks for that they were not tight in any how.
have just finished some lunch so onto the re-fit now there is a bit of cleaning to do too. took a good 30 mins to clear up all the oil and coolant sucked it all out with a meat baster (The wife is not impressed!)
