Heavy Duty Glue Residue Remover Required Please

Hi Everyone,

you can tell its been a day with the car today because I am submitting a few questions!

so I removed the chrome mirror covers today and boy did someone not want them to fall off, I have not seen anything quite like it, its a super thick glue that almost like tape but its everywhere and I really can't shift it, I feel I have tried everything on it.

Does anyone know either what this stuff is? or how do I get rid of it? I am not fussed about finish because I have my own body coloured mirror caps to go back on but I need as clean a surface a possible to stick them too and the drivers one is after about 2 hours of trying to scrape it off, its still left with residue.

I was thinking of getting one of those residue/glue remover sponges that fit to a grill but not sure how well that will work getting it off the black plastic wing mirror covers.

any advice will be very well received.

Try paint stripper .

Thanks everyone,

heat gun - didn't work, it seemed to be melting the mirror casing before it was softening up whatever this stuff is

I think new glue in the spaces may be what I resort to!

erm is paint stripper a serious suggestion or will that destroy my car? That makes me nervous just thinking about it

If you do decide to glue in the spaces, I certainly would, be sure to clean everything with methylated spirits beforehand to ensure the glue sticks correctly.

I was thinking about taking my chrome mirror covers off, but this has pit me off. Did you ever get it sorted?

I did, I used multisolve in the end with a lot of scraping with one of those plastic tools that you get the lettering off with. It took a while but was worth it. I replaced the chrome covers with Java black though, I couldn’t of got the stock mirrors back to a passable state.

I was really impressed by the mirrors to be honest. I am also waiting for the door handles to come into stock

I appreciate that one of the great things about the world of Range Rovers is that it’s a broad church of tastes.......but personally, I think you and anybody else who removes a set of chrome mirror covers from a Range Rover should get a gold star or free pint Archieatkins!
