In spades. It’s epic, smooth quiet and pulls like a train from low down. I rarely push it over 2000 rpm but if you do boot it, it goes like a scalded cat. It a really relaxing drive and I consistently get over 30 mpg in mixed driving. A long motorway run will get over 40 mpg.

It’s not a car to hoon around in though. Better to have a different car for that.

Well, one is diesel the other is supercharged petrol Wink

The quiet, smooth and howling supercharged petrol is undeniably more relaxed in everyday driving. Much more power is always on tap, with no delay, no noise rattle or shake, and then some. And then there are the secondary benefits of not only a better spec level as standard but also nice clean hands at the petrol station. So yes, much more relaxed in everyday driving.

And of course, ULEZ compliant, nice with the zomes being extended.

The only reason I would consider a diesel these days is if I was towing a lot of the time, and do a lot a lot of miles. I'm only doing about 15K per year, so not really worth it.

It’s a little like my current choice of vehicles: I have a 911 which is ‘nippy’ when I’m in the mood.... and a Mondeo diesel, which is pretty torquey and strangely, I enjoy driving more than the other sometimes.

To be honest, I think the final decision may well come down to whichever one comes up first, at a reasonable price.

That, and the spec.... I’m a sucker for a well specced vehicle. Am aware the SC is generally including more toys as standard, though not the FBH.

My 5.0 averages about 16mpg around town and between 26 and 29mpg on a run. Hardly economical but acceptable with over 500bhp on tap.

In the opinion of my local Indy whilst spending more at the pump I’ll potentially save on maintenance as he repairs many more diesels than petrols, that’s allowing for the fact that there are far more diesels on the road. He just thinks it’s far easier to get 500bhp out of a petrol engine than it is to get 340bhp from a diesel.

I stress, his opinion not mine. Let’s face it any FF has the potential to spit the dummy Sad

As has been said, probably the most important thing to consider is trying to buy the best you can regardless of fuel. I didn’t set out to buy a petrol. The one I’ve got was on a mileage I liked, a colour scheme I liked, impeccable service history and most importantly a price I liked. It just happened to be a petrol.

And once taken for a test drive and feeling what that 500bhp feels like in the real world fuel economy was the last thing on my mind Very Happy

Thanks; I think I’ll keep looking, based on condition/price/spec, rather than engine type.
Guess I’ll be happy with either as I can appreciate each of the different characteristics they offer Thumbs Up

Laugh all you like, it gets over 40 mpg consistently on a long motorway run at the legal limit. Surprised me first off, but it does and I’m nerdy enough to do my own calculations rather than rely on the OBC and it gets 41-43 mpg over a long run. Around town it’s about 25 or less, but I have a petrol Mini to do short journeys around town. The Rangie is for long journeys.

Could it Ben that a difference of even just a few mph in cruising speed makes a lot of difference to mpg?

I’ve had cars like that; I always put it down to the turbo kicking in and drinking more fuel?
Or micro ‘Surges’ that some people drive and constantly slightly pulse the throttle without even being aware.... weird, but I know a couple of people who do that.

I much prefer petrol over diesel usually.
However for a big heavy elephant you really need the torque of a diesel.
Much more relaxing drive, low rpm subtle pull as opposed to high rev powerband.

I guess you haven’t driven a supercharged V8 petrol. No need for high revving, but at least it can.

My BMW V12 had optimum mileage at 90mph, sadly that was illegal speeds in the UK. But even then it was not more than the official figures.

Consistent above 40mpg seems way to high compared to official figures to truly have all the time. Well unless there is some remap going on on that vehicle.

Have to say, when I drove my 4.4TDV8 down from Manchester to Suffolk after the purchase, virtually all motorway I have to admit, bless her, she returned 40mpg. Sat at a steady 65mph trying to take all of the experience in & I couldn't believe the mpg. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

If the L322 5.0 had the 8 speed box I would have probably gone for one.
For such a heavy vehicle the higher torque is needed.
