The mystery deepens.

I cleared the fault codes this morning. Checked the connectors on the loom for corrosion and then pull the connector off each injector in turn.

Am I right in my belief that the cylinders run front to rear? So cylinder #1 is closest to the radiator? I was monitoring the live data and pulled the loom connectors one at a time front to rear. When I pulled #2 (the first injector flagged up) the reading for injector #3 decreased?

Would this indicate a problem with the loom?

I found a thread on Landy Zone that suggested that the external low pressure fuel pump can cause injector problems?

Yep, number 1 is closest to the radiator as you say. I'm not sure how the values work on the newer iid tools as I had a non bluetooth version which just displayed +/- mm2 figures and the lower the number the better if I remember correctly....

Mine was showing something like +6 for injector 1 wheras all the others were showing minus figures apart from one (can't remember which) as it was trying to compensate. When I pulled the plug on no1 it made no difference whatsoever to the idle hence flagging an obvious fault.

A question for the technical experts.

Can I used a BMW injector loom instead of a Land Rover one? They look identical but the BMW one is £125 cheaper.

Are they the same length? How much are they as last time I enquired they were around £350? I'd be tempted to prove it faulty first but your call I suppose.

In your original post, it shows a low-pressure reading of 3.85bar. That is pretty healthy. Stick with the easy part 1st, do a continuity test of the loom, if OK I would then buy cheap used injectors from eBay, check the spray pattern and swap them out with the 2 suspect ones. Depends on how much you want to spend and what you can DIY. If you are going to remove the injectors yourself get a puller.

Thanks guys!

That video was really helpful. Strange how it was a mirror image with everything reversed?

I did the continuity test as shown and it appears to be a problem with the injector rather than the loom. So I guess that I will have to bite the bullet and pick up a couple of reconditioned injectors, swap them out and cross my fingers...

Question - would you change the injectors yourself or put it into a garage?

It's a straight forward DIY if you have the confidence. No 1 comes out easily but the rest requires removing the inlet manifold. I would say no longer than an hour to get full access. Here is where the fun can start if the injectors are stuck. Don't start without a puller at hand. What I do is put rotational pressure on the injector while banging up with the puller/slide hammer. Slowly getting the injector moving side to side and hopefully up and out. Plenty of penetrating oil down the hole as soon as you can to give time for it to soak in. Be mindful of plastic parts you might be levering against and that there is a lot of pressure in the fuel rail to be released. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I was lucky as it was injector number 1 so no inlet manifold removal required. I took advice from someone on here and loosened the injector securing nuts and fired the car up. Engine compression then popped the injector loose! I have heard stories of slide hammers etc being used though....

Well I have given the offending injector (#2) a good squirt of Plus Gas and will leave it to soak while I source a replacement.

I had intended to just remove the injector and drop it off for refurbishment. A local Bosch centre has quoted me £165 +VAT to carry out a referb, which seems high to me?

Anyone here any recommendations?

The other thing is initially only injector #2 was flagged up when I ran a live values test. When I cleared the codes and ran a second test it showed problems with #2 and #6. Is this the engine trying to balance itself or should I replace both?

I would start with 2 then re-test if no 6 needs replacing after then do it. i think your quote for a Bosh registered garage to refurb the injector is ok, but you may want to try ebay 1st.
if my memory serves me right no6 can be a pig to do as access is very tight. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
