Well I have bought a 59 reg. Vogue, not an SE but it does seem to have a lot of non standard kit, heated seats, upgraded infotainment, 20” super charged wheels and 58 K of full LRSH, it has done 5 K in the last 6 years, I'll treat him to a full oil change, EGR removal etc. I have been looking for one for several years now and this one came up at the right time so there we are one proud owner of a Stornoway grey/ black interior fattie.
Now I would like to ask what the general opinion on tow bars is, I have to fit a system to tow the cattle trailer in style and comfort, have read on the forum quite a bit and the information available is mind boggeling but I struggle to find the info I need.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, Will

I think I should have worded this better, it is the type op tow bar, i.e. are the removable ones up to the rigours of towing heavy trailers with moving occupants or are the fixed ones a better bet but not as elegant when not in use. Thanks, Will

Depends what you're after really - strongest & simplest - go for the OE Westfalia unit from PF Jones.

[EDIT] Just checked and it looks like PF Jones no longer supply the OE kit

It has an armature piece that attaches to the chassis & has a 2" square receiver (american style). Then a couple of options, but I'd say the drop (farmers) hitch is best for your application. Ultimately it's removable again, leaving just the receiver visible.

There is another option of a 'removable' unit to go into the receiver, but it leaves so much on display when reoved, I've never really seen the point....

My vote goes to the P F Jones kit - electrics are plug & play.

Personally, I would never use a removalable type as I simply do not trust them & in anycase, to me a RR looks undressed without a purposeful looking towbar. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

I have the above Items on my fatty, "secondary parking sensor" .

If you want to tow a heavier trailer then either the farmers hitch or the detachable will do the jo perfectly well.

I’ve towed my full 3.5t Indespension trailer with my 322 with a detachable westfalia bar. No problems.

You will need:

The armature which bolts to the car this part is multi purpose and will take either the farmers drop hitch or the detachable, these both fit into the 2” recieved hole on the armature.

Then you need either the drop plate farmers, which is technically removable pretty easily or the detachable unit which is what it says on the packet.....

Plus some electrics. The dedicated LR wiring wasn’t too expensive from the dealer from what I can remember.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well, I have installed a tow bar, PF Jones supplied a PTC Flange tow bar, RV4216A, fitted perfectly and the wiring loom worked first time, I did manage to order the wrong 2009 loom first but they were very accommodating in sending the correct one. The OH did have a bit of a fit when she saw the back half of the FF in bits on the shelf but has now calmed down. Thanks for the suggestions especially suggesting PF Jones.

Farmers hitch is definitely the way to go, as it also gives you some height adjustment. The removable ones are always a bit worrying (there were stories a few years ago about them self-detaching through user error), and the farmers hitch lets you mount standard accessories like bike racks that bolt to the two holes - better than the ones that clamp to the ball.

As it's a 2 inch receiver you can use US style bike racks too, though you need to watch for how recessed the hitch is - I had to modify my thule so it didn't foul the bumper. It did only cost me 99p on ebay as few people in the UK have a 2 inch receiver, so I wasn't too worried if it didn't work out

For the properly agricultural look change the ball for a ball and pin hitch.
