I’ve not done anything as I’m sure there was a post on here saying the looms are different, but I can’t see it now.

Was there ever any solution to this?

Has anyone managed to update the standard 720 Logic7 to the 1200 HD system or any other system for that matter?

Speakers, amps etc, any news is appreciated!

I never went any further, as I wasn’t confident that it would be more or less an amp swap.

Also wondering , does anyone know on lrcat which speaker part numbers are which. I have 2 front door and 1 rear pillar speaker need replacing in my 2010 autobiography, I have the non hd logic7 system but would be interested in upgrading to HD, id take a punt on the ‘2 way’ door speakers to see if the connectors are the same first. Surely cant be different looms. Current Vehicles :

I have all the answers to this, because I just did it (and it works). The short answer it is not a simple amp swap (everything is made intentionally differently to prevent people from doing this). there are MANY differences (starting at amplifier connectorization, many speakers are different also). If someone is really serious and doesn't mind doing a LOT of work, feel free to reach out for help. I did a LOT of research on this and I was very committed to do whatever it took to accomplish this, and I'm very resourceful. I can tell you it is not easy, but it is very doable.

Even the subwoofer is totally different (in Logic7 the sub has its own AMP part of the sub, in the Logic7HD1200W system, the sub is completely passive and powered from the 1200W amp. Like I said, lots of differences.

Hi, it’s from the workshop manual that’s downloadable from the Wiki.

I had to do a screen capture to get it and that combined with loading onto here seems to make it much less detailed.

At least it’s do able then.... only option I wish mine had. If I ever manage to get an L405, that will be having the signature system in it.... at least I think that’s what it’s called.

So the first question I´d have then; is this worth it?

Could I ask what the cost was for buying parts and having the work done?

Do you have a link to the wiki for where that diagram came from? My manual only has the AUD2C (high line pre-2010) and AUD4 (Logic7 600W used in MY10-MY12)

I have lots of other projects too (I'm really good at adding features that were oem and some rare, but not on my truck when it was built) - i.e. I've added adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, factory rear seat entertainments, and right now I'm working on adding a fuel burning heater to my NAS truck (no NAS trucks were built with this).

If anyone is truly interested in taking on a Logic7HD (AUD3-16 Premium-16 1200W) upgrade, I don't have time to do a full tech write-up, but I can post little bits and pieces here if anyone is truly motivated.

As far as "is it worth it?", thats a really subjective question. Its like asking is a high level trim Range Rover is worth $180k. I suppose it is to some people. As far as the sound system goes. I suppose looking back if I knew how much work it was, I may have skipped it, but I am happy I have it now. It *IS* better than standard logic7, its just a question on if its worth all the work to do it "right". To me personally, I would enjoy a premium sound system more than a supercharger. It's just a question as to what is important to you.

I really don't like the design of the L405, which is probably why I put so much effort into my L322

So I (finally) finished this job (including adding full H.265 media capability for RSE to replace the antique DVD player, but thats for another thread lol). Yes it works. No, it was NOT easy. Yes, it was definitely worth it (to me). But knowing what I know now, I probably would not have done this in the first place (it was a LOT of work). I would charge someone thousands of dollars in labor if they asked me to do this again. That being said, here is some free advice.

1. Many people look at the difference between logic7 and Logic7HD as primarily a different amplifier (600W vs 1200W). This is really NOT true. The main difference is the speakers

2. I've heard lots of people talk about a "amp-swap" to from a salvage vehicle to "upgrade" their sound system. This is definitely possible, but certainly not easy either as everything (every connector) is different (including the speaker wires are much heavier gauge wire that run through the entire vehicle), but I can tell you that if you wanted to do some half-ass component swap and not go through the lengths that I did to get a true full Logic7HD system, you would get much better performance just swapping all your speakers (NONE of them are the same) to the Logic7HD speakers and power them with your old amp, more so than just swapping the amp. The correct way to do it is to change everything (see above note about a LOT of work). The real reason for the amp difference between the two is the additional power handling capability of the Logic7HD speakers.

3. All the midrange door speakers are plastic welded into the door panels (you normally have to buy an entire door panel to replace a speaker). Removing these and replacing them requires plastic welding skills. Its not hard, but it is work.

4. The stock Logic7 is built with cheaper speakers mostly with iron magnets and paper cones. The Logic7 HD system is built with all speakers having neodymium magnets, poly cones, and deeper excursion.

5. The stock logic7 system has 6" paper cone front low frequency drivers, the Logic7 HD has inverted magnet 8" mini-subwoofers in the same locations, and they use a nifty trim ring to pull the larger speaker away from the door sheetmetal.

6. The stock Logic7 system uses dummy speakers (a tweeter mounted in a plastic trim ring), so it sounds like audio is coming from that location, but do not contiribute nearly as much as the Logic7 HD coaxial speakers in the same locations.

7. There are some missing wires that need to be run from the amplifier into the door panels (In logic 7, one channel is used for each rear door and the speakers are all in parallel, Logic7HD uses a separate amp channel for each speaker). Be prepared to rip up all the carpeting and remove lots of interior body panels to run wires.

8. Logic7 uses a powered Subwoofer, Logic7HD uses a dual voice coil (2 amp channels) passive subwoofer powered from the main amp.

9. There are many other differences and if anyone is serious about taking this project on, sorry I don''t have time to do a tech write up, but feel free to reach out for help since I did it already, and it works (really, really well)

Wow. Lots of changes and plenty going on there then.

On my 2003 TD6 I had the stage 2 amp upgrade, just with stock speakers, and it really woke it up.

I have a tri active LINN system in the house that spoils me, but tend to listen to more music in the car, at least before Covid anyway.

Think this is a lesson learnt for the next car... get the top hifi option.

All I can say is
WOW

I honestly thought it was a more powerful amp.
A selling trick to upgrade the car (relatively) cheaply and charge a lot for it.
But how wrong I was.

As an HD owner I enjoy the system very much.
But now I appreciate it so much more.
