Thank you, both for pointing me to the thread and to the correct relay.
I haven't been able to locate an answer whether I should just plug the relay or not, granted there is nothing in the R2 socket, so I'm stuck. |

Thank you for the guidance and reassurance. I'm just done restoring the fat lady in her rightful glory and I was afraid of accidentally frying something... |

It appears that your cigar lighter sockets are directly wired from the fuse board and not either provided with the option of using a fixed link or fed through a relay.

Ok, if you want to go ahead with modifying things to make the front socket ignition controlled let me know and I will make up a set of instructions for you. Nothing difficult, it can all be done in the rear compartment.

Here you go, if you have any questions just ask.
Disconnect the white plug to give yourself a bit of working room. Follow the cable away from the plug and you should find a spot that you are happy to cut it. Cut the cable, bare the ends and connect an extension cable to each cut end and run the extension cables to connect with terminals 30 and 87 respectively, as per drawing below.
You then need to find the Green/ Yellow ignition operated cable, this is in the wiring harness above the rear fuse board with the large red cable in it as per photo below.
Find a convenient point for yourself on the cable and connect to it a length of your new 5A cable and insulate the joint. The other end of this new cable should be connected to terminal 85 of your relay. This is a photo of a connection I made earlier.
You will then need to connect a length of 5A cable to terminal 86 of your relay and connect the other end to convenient earth point. A bolt head into metalwork at the top of the compartment opening will work. Do a quick check, reinsert the two fuses and white plug, your cigar socket will now be ignition controlled. Now just tidy up the wiring and mount the relay if required This should give you everything you need. ![]() |

Wow! Hats off to you, sir! I could have never figured this out by myself and I'm grateful you took the trouble to write this all up. It's all crystal clear. I will locate the cables tomorrow and do the necessary shopping during the week. Then I can hopefully get it all donenext Saturday. |
