Second Turbo drain mod [down south]

Looks like I may be needing a turbo drain mod after all, Green Oval in Leeds comes up quite a lot, Leeds isn't that far to be honest but just wondered if anyone knew of anyone 'down sarf' that can be highly recommended [not just recommended but highly recommended]. Local Indy, who's been brilliant, don't fancy doing the job & in fairness I can't grumble at that, you either fancy it or you don't.....& they don't.

Has anyone ever received any financial help from LR to have this done retrospectively especially as it's a known fault & is it worth speaking to LR or just get on with it!

Appreciate any help as per usual. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Rovertune in Reading has been mentioned before, not sure if that's going to be any good to you though looking at your location 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

JLR are not interested, dont waste your breath, potentially I suppose a group action would have been the way to do it, it's clearly a design fault.

I tried several independents, including some down south who were all pretty much vague about the mod, Green Oval were the only ones that seemingly knew the job inside out hence why I chose them. IMHO this job needs to be done right, its a once only chance and these guys know their stuff and know it very well. They provided photographs as the work progressed, the more I see the happier I was I had entrusted it to Green Oval.

Your call and I can understand the desire to find someone local but if it were me I'd make the trip up North, have a coutesy car from Green Oval and have a couple of days around York or similar. BMW i3 Electric Car

dennij: Rovertune was the other name that cropped up but there's something in the back of my mind that says they weren't 100% keen on doing this, but I maybe proved wrong.

AJGalaxy: I can easily hook the caravan up & visit the Yorkshire Dales for a few days no problems! Laughing
More than happy to travel up to Leeds, just wanted the opportunity for someone to say "hey, try these guys" first.

Green Oval leading the race so far.
Thanks for both your inputs. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

The first time I towed my caravan (Bailey Senator Wyoming) before the drain mod was done I spent most of my trip cleaning the bloody oil off it from the car, it was royal nightmare. After the mod, no issues.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Just out of curiosity, what has made you decide to have the turbo mod done? I'd be interested in costs and what improvements you notice if you go ahead and get it done 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Bit of a long story.....had the FFRR 9 months now, read up on here about 'spirited driving' above 2500-2750rpm which then gives a good indication on whether your car needs the drain mod.
I tried this several times early on & nothing out the back at 3000rpm so I was quite happy.
Got into a tight spot climbing a slip road onto the A14 & stuck my foot down & the Restricted Performance red light came on. Pulled into the petrol station, filled up, drove off....no RP light. Straight down to the Indy & consensus of opinion was the actuator valve for the second turbo. Lockdown came & went [virtually] tried at 2800rpm twice, both time RP came up.
Into the Indy again who went through do-nut hoses [fine] EGR valve [fine] & found the actuator rod wasn't stuck but wasn't free so lubricated that. He road tested it & said it was quite smokey but soon cleared.
There was quite a lot of oil somewhere [only spoken to him on the 'phone, collecting the car later' so can only assume oil is collecting somewhere until 2800rpm is exceeded. Indy mentioned the LR bulletin about the turbo mod but he wouldn't get involved.
I have OCD where if it needs to be done, bish bosh, get it done. He may say when I collect it, that it's not that bad & may suggest a 'boot' every now & again.
If I have it done, budget for between £1000-£1250? 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Only spoken on the 'phone but think he said the 'changeover' or 'crossover' valve is the upgraded one......if that makes sense? 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Yep. Easy to check but only when you know where to look. Took me about 5mins to work it out Thumbs Up
Stand facing the engine. Look down and left from the top right hand side of radiator. You can then see the CSOV valve and the rod that either has the unmodified nut or the modified part.

Image shows unmodified with nut:

Update on collection of car if anyone is interested:

[quote] "2 x fault codes found, suspect either EGR valve stuck open or air leak.
Smoke test revealed no leaks.
Check EGR dynamic operation & found no evidence of sticking valve.
Road test & found excessive smoke under hard acceleration which soon cleared.
Removed CSOV & recirculation valve & cleaned. Found very oily & recirculation valve not always operating.
Cleaned thoroughly & valve now moving as expected. Road tested & RP didn't return.
Customer recommended to use engine to full potential to make sure turbo actuator and other actuators in air intake keep working". [unquote].

I asked the Indy was it 'necassary' to get the turbo mod done, he didn't think so as long as I/the car reached 3k rpm every now & again. I'm thinking of monitoring the situation for a few weeks, try & squeeze the pedal a little bit more & exercise those ponies a little harder & just see what happens.
Have to add that I thought the Indy handled the job extremely well, kept on looking for the culprit & hopefully found it.
Bottom line is, if she needs the mod done then she'll have it done....end of.

Happy motoring Laughing

The 'italian tune up' has been discussed a lot here on the forum.

Reckon you'll be fine with the occasional Thumbs Up Cheers, Greg
