For reason's I shan't go into, I just had to go into a council flat...

There was food all over the floor. Dirty clothes piled and rotting crockery everywhere. Their sofa's where multi-coloured, but should have once been beige. There was also a laptop, a 32" LCD TV and a sky box.

It was a two bedroom flat, but the woman was moving out as she was heavily pregnant with her second child and needed a bigger house obviously.


I grew up in single parent family, our house was spotlessly clean and well presented. We didn't have much but what we did have was in good condition and looked after - because we bought it ourselves.

It really gets my goat that this skank gets everything provided for her and she treats it with utter contempt, then pushes another brat out to get a bigger house. What a reward for 5 minutes of laying on your back and spreading your legs for the nearest passer by.

I don't have a point to this story, other than I wish I had some fly spray that worked on people.

Now excuse me whilst I go jump in the shower. 

I have to occasionally work in houses like that, one of which spring to mind, It was a place owned by a Jewish family, carpets were worn through and held together with duct tape in the hall, they were completely threadbare on the staircase, the wall paper was hanging off, kitchen a complete mess, bins over flowing, the sofa arms were completely worn through to the point of sponge missing and the wooden frame exposed.

They had the cheek to ask me to take my shoes off at the door, I opted for shoe covers. I was doing some repairs to their door access system and had to run a cable from the main unit in the hall cupbpard to the lock release in the front door frame, I didn't fancy lifting the carpets as they were sticky to the touch, so opted to run the cable along the skirting board then up the door frame. 2006 Mercedes CLS

interesting and completely true I'm afraid.

My neighbour (and snooker partner) is a sparky and works on council houses. Normally renovation in prep for new tenant but sometimes for occupied as well. Some of the stories are just terrible. Brand new kitchens/bathrooms going in, complete re wires etc etc.

Some houses he's been in, previous tenants light fires in the middle of the lounge on tin foil rather than run the heating (kind of what they're used to back "Home"). He has seen places with faeces on the floor on most rooms, no wallpaper etc as Dan says but they are the first to complain if they don't get a new kitchen with marble worktops or proper tiles on the floor rather than lino.!

For the most part (as it is in East London where he works) most of the tenants are from foreign lands as well. Makes me wonder what our council taxes are going on. Not my first choice to be honest. Ash

I'm making an assumption that you believe my comments were somewhat racist. That was not the case nor ever meant to be stated like that. I was merely re telling some stories my neighbour told me and for the most part, the majority of his "Clients" were not originally from this country. I also know for a fact that some very much are. This does not make a difference to how they act or the stories I am told.

To Dan's original point, just because you don't have much money, why do you feel the need to live like this. Washing and generally being tidy costs nothing. It seems to be an issue for "some" people living in council provided accommodation that cleanliness has eluded them...

(investments can go down as well as up and some Council house tenants can be clean and tidy and white middle English folks). Ash

I agree with Dan too, but you should see the state of my garage at the moment, or the interior of the wife's car, and i don't wash my FFRR very often So I kinda fit into the category described. I guess the rest of you guys are super neat and tidy, or have servants  .

1stly I must point out that I am in no way a racist person.
I do think that it should be an equal playing field for all but as I think many are aware things have passed the balance point and there seems to be quite a few people who, whilst not being BNP candidates, are fed up with the English white male being at the bottom of the list when it come to anything in this country.

I find it annoying how the 'White aspiring middle class' comments are used (not a dig at you Joe, just a comment on the screwed up state of this country) as soon as someone makes a comment which is either describing a scenario as above or is in the slightest way in negative towards a 'non-white' person.
Please don't get me wrong, comments based on colour, creed or background, in my opinion are due to ignorance and I have no time for these.

As for aspiring middle class, don't most of us want a better life for ourselves & our kids, I know that's why my parents worked 4 jobs between them and I now do what I do for my kids?

And as for the state of the properties that have been posted it's got nothing to do with money or class but mindset (not going into deep discussions on how different areas of population propagate habits which some maybe find inappropriate).

Let's not get too heavy on a Sunday evening but you would have thought they could at least keep them clean if they are getting them for nothing

I like to think that's there's a distinct difference to untidiness and dirty.......it would seem that I too have one of your garages, which I am always trying to clear up. As an interim measure I have found that a high vis jacket, hard hat and boots by the door for anyone visiting leave me with a clear conscience (until I have time to clear away) ..

Unfortunately being a white male and "probably" middle class puts me at the absolute bottom rung of the ladder in terms of my rights.

I was walking through the park today, a black guy was screaming on his mobile, flucking white guy this flucking white guy that, he's guna fluck him up - whilst playing football with his kid.

I thought to myself, if I said that, I would no doubt be arrested and have my name spread all over the papers.
