If it's the drain mod needed, drive around like miss Daisy for 20 miles or so, this lets the oil build up and then when you get above 2500 rpm the oil is burned and it is quite spectacular. Mine could obliterate totally the vision behind for about 800 metres or so, an enormous amount of smoke. Once the mod was done however, it was completely clear and never smoked at all. The two turbo's share a common drain which isn't big enough, back pressure builds up and the oil pools in the induction side of the second turbo. It sits there until you go above 2500 rpm when the second turbo comes into play and then the stored oil is dumped into the engine with staggering results that would have been good in a Bond movie (or Trotters Independent Traders Reliant for that matter).

The secondary turbo has its own drain which is emptied using a camshaft-driven scavenger pump. The pump stops as soon as the engine stops yet oil pressure to the turbo and other bearings takes a while to leak out of all the bearings. The turbo oil would normally be sucked out via the drain by the pump but the pump is stopped, blocking oil flow so oil escapes from the turbo's bearings into the inlet side, pooling until cleared when the turbo is used. When the turbo's seals are new they don't allow oil to escape but as the seals aren't designed to hold oil pressure because the drain prevents pressure build-up, as the seals wear a little they will allow oil under pressure to escape when the drain in blocked.

I bow to your greater knowledge but your explanation doesn't fit the symptoms. Without the turbo drain mod, drive for 20 or so miles below 2500 rpm and then when you go above 2500 you get the smoke screen. Without stopping drive slowly again for another 20 miles or so and the same thing happens, why doesn't the scavenge pump remove the oil successfully? Why does the second turbo need a scavenge pump rather than a return to sump?

John I thought you didn't have to worry yourself about primitive things like combustion engines anymore?

Well this is true, it's more important how much energy I recover on a journey than anything else LOL. It's a very novel experience not going to a petrol station since February and the banks balance looks very healthy as a result. It's good fun blitzing cars from the lights too, the last loser was an Overfinch Rangie hehe, I know Im good up to 30mph, after that I'm fair game but it's usually enough to make a point LOL

I’m pretty sure what the turbo drain mod does is simply give it a path back to the sump. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
