Hi you could try using soapy water around the inlet manifolds yourself to check for air leaks to see if you can spot anything. Use a spray bottle of water and washing up liquid spray it all over and let the engine run or get someone to rev it and see if you can see some bubbles forming which would tell you sir is escaping. Might be worth a try as this is how I diagnosed my cracked inlet manifold. Thumbs Up Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Very Happy

Well Good news! and on two fronts !!

It was as you look at the engine from the front the rear left donut.

I took the car this morning to a new (to me) garage in Dunmow (essex) about 30 mins from me.

The chap said if I got it there for bang on 8.00am he would have a quick look before he started on the other cars scheduled for today, then we could discuss the best way forwards depending on what was found.

He did a high pressure smoke test and found a small split in the left rear rubber. It was right underneath so would have been a pig to find... So I am instantly relieved it wasn't anything major. The chap tells me he doesn't have any of the donuts in stock. im not to worried as now I know what it is I could sort it relatively easily, However he then turns up with a second hand one and puts it on for me.

We were chatting about the 'service required' coming up after only 9k since last service and the overfilled oil situation and came to the conclusion that since I've only done short trips for the past 10 weeks (lock down stuff) that it was probably multiple failed regen's.

So he suggests he does an oil change. Im quite happy as I didn't want to push my luck with what was only "a quick look"
He didn't have a filter in stock but did an oil change for me there and then.

Time spent ? just under an hour !

So i booked the car in for next week for another oil change and a filter change along with a general service and for him to look at my rubbish a/c.

So when I go to settle up he wouldn't take any money from me, just said we could sort it out when I bring it in next week. How good is that ?

Superb service a very rare thing in these times...

FYI Ive no connection with the garage other than today if you are near the stanstead area and need your landrover looking at maybe give the guy a ring ?

Have you checked the oil dilution figure on your IID? Max is 7 as per Dolphin's advice above. It should have come right down if you reset the service on your IID. This should always be done after an oil change or the car has no way of knowing it has "new oil" for it's calculation. Yup ! I know !!!

however I did learn something else as well, to replace the rear donut he removed the hole of the plastic molding/plenum lump at the rear of the engine that goes against the bulkhead, came out in seconds.....

hopefully I've attached a photo of the smoke test..... 2011 4.4 TDV8

Thanks Craig - on the SDV8 I assume? Are they prone to splitting? Rolling Eyes
