Thanks for that, very interesting I would love that level of detail.

Its fairly obvious that my car was built at a time of change, I have to use two different manuals, quote from 2007 to 2010 manual

"This manual covers all aspects of 2006 model year updates in order to service the vehicle effectively, and is to be used in conjunction with the existing workshop manual Part number: LRL0477."

But nothing tells you which manual to use and when! Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

A lot of the information for the older cars has been removed from Topix recently unfortunately. Although the build sheet might not be available, the parts departments for the dealers should be able to narrow down what was fitted to your car by chassis number still.

I thought all Supercharged cars had the locking rear diff? My old 56 plate certainly did.

I was under the impression that only MY07 cars (with the newer interior and terrain response etc) got the electronic rear diff. It was standard on the supercharged and optional on the other models although all of them show an open padlock over the rear diff on the 4x4 info screen. I proved this with a friends 4.4 tdv8 that we knew didn't have the rear locking diff, putting my MY07 SC into rock crawl mode locked the rear diff (padlock closed), on the tdv8 is remained an open padlock 2005 E60 M5

That fits with what I have found out so far, terrain response was first fitted late 2006 (I read somewhere that it was September I think) mine was built in February.
Also the 4x4 screen does not show the padlock you talk about, however that may only be on terrain response vehicles.

I have to get under it soon so that will be the proof for my car. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

I would say that is likely the case. The MY07 update was quite a big upgrade to be honest, I personally much prefer that later interior to what I have in my 54 4.4 V8 at the moment... I think I'm going to treat my self to something a bit newer once this debacle is over! 2005 E60 M5

Fixed the engine cover mounting studs, drilled out the broken stud, and helicoiled the intercooler to fit the new stud from Duckworth. I used threadlock to help ensure the studs would not come out next time I removed the engine cover but also to protect them from steel to ali corrosion and added a tiny drop of copperease to the nuts. I had to superglue washers to the top of the front studs as the "top hat" washers were missing.

Whilst the plenum chamber was out I stripped that down to clean the interior, there was a lot of rubbish in there. Fitted new cabin/pollen filter and reinstalled the chamber.

So a couple of easy jobs today, next is the Diffs and transfer box...….. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Regarding your writeup for the plug change, I changed them on my 2009 4.2 and found it quite easy. Some methods that might be helpful if there is a next time.
1. Start with the right tools. 3/8 inch ratchet with a proper spark plug socket, a short 3-4 inch extension a longer 8 inch extension, and a swivel were all I needed to get all the plugs out and back in easily. Attach the swivel to the socket and then add extensions as necessary and you shouldn't have any problem getting into or out.
2. I left all the coil packs plugged into their wires and had enough room to get them out of the way working one cylinder at a time. This way I didn't have to worry about breaking a clip or getting other tools in there to pry them off or on. The one on the back left was the most difficult to deal with as OP mentioned but it wasn't bad. I didn't have to loosen or remove the brake valve. If the others took 5 min each, that one took 8 min.
3. Make sure your engine is cold when you do this job. Makes getting the plugs in and out much easier and and they get tightened properly too.
4. Use a little silicon spray on the threads of the new plugs. Or just spit on them a little, and they will thread on much easier.

Start to finish, I think I spent 1.5 hours at an easy pace for all 8 plugs, and I'm by no means an expert or experienced mechanic. 2009 L322 SC

I think the 2009 model must be very different, perhaps from MY2007 because the left bank no 4 a straight 150mm extension would not fit, I had to use a wobble extension just to get that extra degree or to of movement and it was fiddly because of a mixture of wiring harness, coolant and air con piping was in the way. The right bank number 1 plug was inaccessible without moving either the oil breather or the device in this picture (now known to be the brake vacuum pump)



I think this is due to the 2006 model being a bit of a one off during the change from BMW to Jag, I can almost imagine the engineers saying let just bung the AJV8 in whilst we work out how to do it properly!
