L322 2010 4.4 tdv8 gearbox fault

For a few months now, been getting the gearbox fault message and special programmes off. Car runs great, gearbox perfect. Any suggestions. In previous Post, I've asked about battery, thinking it could be the problem.

Have you changed the battery for a new, correct specification one? (You've said it's a LR one, how old is it?)

You've asked about this on other threads and members have suggested a new one. To add my 2d worth, check the voltage at rest on the car, with it turned off, start the car and check what happens to the volage. Let us know the figures and then there may be some more help. Cheers

I'm not actually sure how old it is. I'm. Hoping it's the battery. I'll get some figures tomorrow and I'll post them up.

Cheers for the reply.

With your reply I assume you have multimeter to measure. You can also use the centre info screen to get the battery voltage at any time you wish.

I think it's the same for you, assuming yours is a 3.6.

With the centre screen on the home, touch the white bar at the top, in the centre for a slow count of five,.

then push the navigation button in for a cont of five.

You should get a numeric keypad

Hit 753 then enter and then choose values (right hand list, second down?)

Voltage should come up.

If I'm wrong on the 3.6, would one of our more sensible members correct me? Cheers

I got a gearbox overheat message several times. Swapping out the fluid stopped it coming back. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've got the 4.4 tdv8. It's not the overheat message I'm getting. Just says gearbox fault. It's there as soon as car starts up. Followed by special programmes off. As I said car is spot on. Goes through the gears perfect, sports box is great, paddle shift is spot on. That's why I'm thinking battery.

Forgot to mention, after about 2-3 weeks, battery goes to around 50% charged. Car still starts OK and everything works apart from the above gearbox message

There should be a date stamp on top of one of the battery posts, you'll need to crank your neck in at an angle to see but this may help. Not all batteries are date stamped but I believe pukka one's are. Sounds very much like a battery scenario to me sir. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Yeh I'm thinking the same. Just away to check voltage with engine off, then running, then under load. See what I get.

I've had the gearbox fault message on 3 of 4 of my Range Rovers over the years, all turned out to be a weak battery, hope yours is the same.

OK so tester showed. 12.6 car off, 14.7 running and 14.6 under load. Lights on, heated seats and heater blower full on.
I'm. Hoping it's battery aswell. Seems to be a common problem.
