Picked her up today, all sorted.....apart from the XYZ switch now is playing up. In days gone by they were about £80 new, now £200+. I think I’ll try and source a decent second hand unit on fleabay, it isn’t a big job labour wise.

The quote to get all of the body work, wheels and calipers done is a tad under £5k. Mechanically she is sound and the interior is excellent so it would make it a mint P38. I wouldn't expect to see my money back, but I really like it and having sold my 110 Heritage I need another garage queen.

XYZ switch replaced with a £40 eBay second hand part, new they are ridiculous money. She fired up first time and the Gearbox Fault warning message went. Nice to have her back.

I think the guy who quoted you £5,000 for that lot didn't really want the job, it seems excessively high...!! Pete

You might be right but there is quite a bit to do. The rear wheel arches need some new metal and respraying, the lower tailgate bottom lip is shot and needs to be re-skinned and resprayed with new decals, the rear and front bumpers and sills need repair and respraying, the whole vehicle will be mopped and polished, wheels refurbished (awkward due to painted spokes) and calipers refurbed and repainted. Quite a few hours in there.

Nice to see someone else who appreciates the P38.

I've got a pair of Alveston Red 2002 Vogue SE's. Apparently in this colour and spec they only made 35 of them Smile

One of them I've had for 3 years and other then routine wear and tear it's not needed anything. The other I took a gamble on as I bought it with a ticking tappet. Upon stripping it down it turned out it was the liner sliding up and down and hitting the cylinder head.

Just this week I've finished installing a freshly built 4.6 V8 that was supplied by V8 Developments in Spalding. It's now got a top hat linered block, a torquemax camshaft, bigger valves and gas flowed heads so there's a nice chunk of midrange torque there that I've not had on a P38 before.

Funnily enough, after putting the new engine in it, my XYZ switch is messing around too!

New engine sounds great, well done. I’m not 100% but I think the Bordeaux is Alveston red. I’m looking forward to getting it tidied up and then going to the odd show locally.

Oddly the 3 seconds of audio music has a copy right slapped on it, I will do a new video showing the install, still working better than original

Thanks for that. My plan if possible is to keep the original stereo but have a Bluetooth adapter fitted stealthily. There is a firm in Bromsgrove that does it, ultimateaudio. 👍

Just completed a very relaxed 350 mile round trip from home to Essex. Bless her, she averaged 18.3mpg but it was tremendously comfortable and quiet at 70 all the way. With the work on the A14 / M11 pretty much complete it is a continuous run from the Stansted junction to Droitwich...

Only snag was I didn’t think about music. It has the original stereo and I’ve not yet had it stealthily bluetoothed, so stuck with the radio. Must get that sorted out.

Nice good to hear. I have put in a Grom BT system so it is all hidden and you can use the head unit and the steering wheel controls. 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 TDV8
