I am wondering what is the largest wheels and tyres you can fit to the L322?

For context, this is in relation to off road use, not large road wheel's. I am looking to potentially have a secondary set of off road wheels, its the 4.4 TDV8 so it has the larger brembo calipers, so I know the actual wheel size will need to be 20 inch. but wondering what limiting factors there are besides the obvious need to cut and shut the arches to accommodate, and possibly a suspension lift. The L322 is very capable off road especially with locking diffs, so how can I get 35inch tyre to fit?

I managed to get 33 inch tyres on my L405 via some 275 60 20 coopers, however, I would like 35's with plenty of side wall, and maybe even some steel modular wheels. My options as I see it, are to cut out arch, and remove factory intercoolers, for an aftermarket charge cooler, install spacers, lift suspension, and maybe even down size the brakes to some smaller floating 6 piston brakes that will accommodate a 18 inch wheel

Has anyone got any experience or seen this done on the L322? I see lots of pictures of Range rover classics running large wheels P38 etc. but no L322's at all...

Plenty of pictures of them with 33” - might suggest 35” is a lot more work.

I'd agree - it will be a disproportionately large effort for an extra inch of clearance under the diffs - but you don't seem to be put off by a challenge.....

I went down a similar route with a Jeep TJ which is infinitely easier to modify and it was a complete pain in the number of things that needed changing or uprating. I ended up with a great off roader, that was far less usable on the road.

Agree - true lift = bigger tyres, but the body will have to rise also - assuming you want to get as much articulation as possible

You'd need to check the width also as I'm guessing you'd be running wider tyres ?

Thanks for the info.. looks like I will need to buy an after market 6 piston caliper set up in a smaller diamiter. I found AP racing brakes that will fit. Thicker vented floating discs, but smaller diameter of 355mm allowing for an 18 inch wheel fitment, rears can then use same calipers but reduce to the 3.0tdi discs and carriers. Then you can fit modular steel wheels 18 inch 9.5J wide with 305 75 18, should make for great off road performance.

I think my biggest issue is wanting somthing as rugged as a hilux with 35" wheels but the refinement and capability of the range rover.

I dont think I'm making it up when I say the L405 is such a capable off road car, but lacks some of the options the discovery and defender have available. Wheel size being one of them.... never has made sense to me to have 20" wheels for off roading. Unless of course you can compensate by having massive tyres, but then arch and suspension interference start to occur.

I'm already looking at options for charge coolers to get rid of the intercoolers so that I can make space in the arches for larger wheels...

For information, I have a set of the 501s in Alistair's link with 23/65/29 tyres on them. They were sold as being 405 take offs. They fitted my 2008 Tdv8 with the 4 pot Brembos.

Better to fit 275/55R20 than any 19" as there isn't much available in 19" yet lots in 275/55R20 including at least 1 LT. 275/55R20 are barely 32" and fit the L405 without any rubbing.

Definitely fit 19” on the 4.4 with the 6 pot brembo.

Don’t have 5 unfortunately. Old car ran 20” most of the time and I only used these for winters which they still have on. Tyres are scorp winters at 255/55/19, decent tread left.

Not sure on price will have a think. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

great thanks provided the L322 and L405 brakes are the same size still (I believe they are) then they should fit over the calipers.
