Generally quiet but.

We have terrible roads round us, but the new shiney does seem to crash and bang through the pot holes more than the 322 did. Not a discernible knock as such but definitely slightly harsher ride over poor road surfaces. In my mind I’m putting it down to 275/45/21 wheel and tyre combo.

On the smooth it is fine. Had a feel about and a good look at the bushes and it all looks solid. I had a twiddle if the Arb drops and they are quite easy to turn. So possibly not as fresh as they could be but nothing untoward.

Not planning to swap out anything yet but was wondering what we’re the first items to go south on the front setup? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I drove for 45,000 miles on my original 21” rims on my very similar specced 405 and apart from its extreme tendency to tramline on motorway lorry ruts, I was quite happy with it. I bought a set of inexpensive 20” rims with the standard 255/55R20 tyres to use for winter wheels, but tried them with their standard M+S tyres and the car was transformed. The tramlining was gone, the ride made it feel like a different car and road surfaces and imperfections could be ignored. That was 36,000 miles ago and I’ve never looked back.

I noticed this with mine. Original set up was 22’ wheels with a 40 profile, swapped to 21’ with a 45 profile and noticeably better but still not perfect on poor surfaces. I’ve settled for that compromise at the moment as I like the style of the 21’ wheels and they do give an excellent ride on everything but really poor surfaces.

I think the ARC control module was updated for the 2016> cars, there is something in my mind about having 2 valves not 1 after a certain date. So I don’t think that’s it. Could be bushes on the ARC as I reckon that are under srain a lot.

Will check the tyre pressures. I think they may be too high. 44 rear rings a bell. So that may help.

I have a feeling it could be ARB drop links which is fine can do them for a few quids. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That I don’t know about?

Is there a TSB number and years it applies to. I thought they had put the updated parts on all the cars post 15? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Checked the tyre pressures, were a high at the rear and about 38 at the front. So not too far out now set 34 front 37 rear. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I don't know too much but I think early 405's have had knocking / roughness addressed with new components. Hopefully an expert will elaborate. But search and you'll find info Mark.

Ah, yes. I read about that. That’s the issue with the ARC control Module I think. Pretty sure mine should have the updated version.

Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I think it's more than electronics. I could be wrong though.

Here found something:

Quote:
2013-14 models may need to have inserts installed the subframe if there’s a knocking sound from the front suspension over uneven surface (LTB00625), and some might need updated front suspension lower arm bushings if there’s a thud/thump noise from the front suspension during heavy braking (LTB00573).
 Cheers, Greg
