I drove for 45,000 miles on my original 21” rims on my very similar specced 405 and apart from its extreme tendency to tramline on motorway lorry ruts, I was quite happy with it. I bought a set of inexpensive 20” rims with the standard 255/55R20 tyres to use for winter wheels, but tried them with their standard M+S tyres and the car was transformed. The tramlining was gone, the ride made it feel like a different car and road surfaces and imperfections could be ignored. That was 36,000 miles ago and I’ve never looked back. |

I noticed this with mine. Original set up was 22’ wheels with a 40 profile, swapped to 21’ with a 45 profile and noticeably better but still not perfect on poor surfaces. I’ve settled for that compromise at the moment as I like the style of the 21’ wheels and they do give an excellent ride on everything but really poor surfaces. |

I think the ARC control module was updated for the 2016> cars, there is something in my mind about having 2 valves not 1 after a certain date. So I don’t think that’s it. Could be bushes on the ARC as I reckon that are under srain a lot.

Checked the tyre pressures, were a high at the rear and about 38 at the front. So not too far out now set 34 front 37 rear. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I don't know too much but I think early 405's have had knocking / roughness addressed with new components. Hopefully an expert will elaborate. But search and you'll find info Mark.

Ah, yes. I read about that. That’s the issue with the ARC control Module I think. Pretty sure mine should have the updated version.

I think it's more than electronics. I could be wrong though.
