Code Reader/tow bar electrics

I have a 2011 Vogue and want to fit a tow bar. I understand that the electrics will need coding. What does that mean exactly, I assume this can be done by a code reader. This brings me to the point, what is the best code reader you guys use and will it code the tow bar electrics. Thanks in advance.

No coding needed on a 2011. Buy the genuine 13pin kit and plug it in. Make sure the cross member grommet is fitted correctly. Use silicon spray. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks for that, I presume the tow bar kit I looked at has an after market loom, that’s why it needs coding.

Maybe, not sure. I just got a genuine one from site sponsor Duckworths. Plugged it in. Job done.
I use it only for battery top up charging via an adaptor lead for my Ctek charger

Socket works a treat for topping up battery from charger as I do not use L322 often enough.
I used the factory electrics when fitting the towbar.
With conventional bulbs on the trailer, the message to select the type of trailer has been connected, caravan, car transporter etc appears.

Unfortunately, LEDs illuminate fine - BUT - do not trigger the interactive message, nor the indicator warning icon.
Does anyone know which lights the ecu looks for to trigger the message (side, stop, indicators)? I guess it could be any or all of them. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

2012 Westminster.
I removed the rear bumper first as I was fitting a towbar as well. Not difficult but access to the left hand inside nuts was limited. It was only when refitting that I realised the wiring loom could be lifted clear - Dohh!

Wiring plugs in easy inside and bolts to towbar the other. Feed through grommet had good access.

Not sure if the grommet could be done with the bumper in place though ! Would need to take a look first.

Cheers. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

Tow electrics can all be fitted with bumper in place. The trickiest bit is getting the grommet to seat properly. Use silicone spray to ease fitting. Small hands help Rolling with laughter Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
