John, that sounds ridiculous, I hope that gets resolved soon, and tbh I'd be in court well before they would get a penny, I'm not sure how consumer law wouldnt protect them - a contract is a contract.

As I've informed the dealer today (as they called asking me to pay for parts) I'm happy to move this to a small claims court if it becomes a stand off and they can keep the car until its resolved and I'll hire a car which ultimately I would expect them to pay for.

The irony is for me is that Car Care Plan (calling themselves Landrover until I asked - sorry who are you really?) also called today asking did I want to extend my warranty past the 27ths Dec......you can imagine my answer. lol. Women was very nice and offered to help if she could, so after explaining, she said .....sorry but that sounds like a dealer problem and we don't work like that so thanks but seeya! lol....just another link of the automotive industry chain that is flawed I guess.

My customers would sue me if I . did this to them, so why shouldnt I. all smug in my new plug!

My experiences with Audi have been mostly positive. Having said that just remembered a few things
The dealer scraped bumpers front and back on my RS4, tried to touch them in with wrong colour paint, and denied it. Fortunately I did a walk around when dropping it off and took pictures too.

Best one with a battery was Porsche refusing to give an extended warranty as the car had a bosche battery fitted, unless I changed it. Exactly the same as the Porsche battery but without their logo. And in the car when bought from the dealer

The dealers are everything, being the customer facing bit as I said before. Get a good dealer and any issues can be disolved if dealt with effectively. Get a bad one and it's a nightmare.

His companies legal person has advised cancelling the PCP is the biggest deal, as they (dealers) have no right to do this.
Second biggest problem is he put a major chunk down as an initial deposit up front rather than balloon at end, so can't just walk away.

On a slightly different note, my company have a new Van on order. The dealer want us to pay for it in full, by the end of the month. I know it's not even in the country yet, let alone at the dealers.
If I asked my customers to stump up in full like this they would laugh at me, it's bad enough trying to get some of them to pay in 30 days... Too many toys, not enough time

Oh can I add one more:

Years ago I had a Honda Integra second generation. Not sure if it was sold as Rover here.

Anyway, it had a slim battery fitted at the front of the engine bay and a low bonnet line. When I needed a new battery I realised the terminals were really close to the bonnet when shut.

I thought, if I buy the wrong battery, the battery posts will dent the bonnet.

So I thought the main dealer will know the correct one and I dropped it off and picked it up later that day.

What could go wrong? Can you guess?

Two bumps in the bonnet from the battery terminals.

They'd fitted a battery that was too tall.

Such a simple job they cocked up.

They got a PDR to fix it but it took three days. Cheers, Greg

Reminds me of taking my last V70 in to the dealer to get a new headlamp bulb fitted (shocking design which is a pain to fit). They left the old one on the slam panel and shut the bonnet. It dented the slam panel and the underside of the bonnet and left one side of the bonnet over an inch proud when they drove it back round to the front to pass it back to me! I had to get the service manager to come and look at the state it was handed back in, but he gave me the impression that it wasn't really worth bothering him about

They are all really shocking aren't they!

I do intend to actually speak to the CEO of LR. Not sure how yet but it will happen if they want me to spend 150k on a car.....

then again it looks like this dealer is now offering 20k contribution.......quite surprised at that..

To be completely honest your plan to move on is best option, however what to is the issue.

I left, had a Merc GL for two years (lovely car) and now got a BMW 7 Series (also lovely)

The customer service from Merc and BMW has been great, much better than LR (the manufacturers seem to understand the dealers represent their brand and wont let them get away with anything)

Of equal importance, nothing went wrong with either vehicle, so other than routine servicing, I've had no need to go to a dealer... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I had an Audi A6 Estate years ago. Having just driven to Scotland I discovered it was gradually filling up with water as the scuttle drains were blocked. Audi Glasgow got me back on my way but it turned out a lot of water had got into the car and the Bluetooth kit, all carpets etc needed replacing as well as making a "repair" and replacing the water-damaged ECU which sat in the scuttle area. Audi Swindon told me it may not be covered under warranty as "You may have parked under some trees".

Similar thing when the DVD player packed up and the told me I'd probably been using the wrong discs in it... 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

That sounds like Audi!

My favourite one was with Ford. I bought a new Ford Focus RS in 2010. there were four removable panels in the roof, under which there were nuts welded into the seams - ready to accept the mounting points for the roof bars.

The nuts were completely filled with the same sealant that the joints were sealed with and it was impossible to shift. It was only a few months old when I had to contact Ford "Customer Services" ( ) to ask for permission to book it into the body shop to get it cleared. Their reply? They declined on the basis that "no one else had complained before, so it can't be a problem".

I’ve never really looked at the Bentley Bentayga and didn’t realise they have produced a diesel version. The reviews are very good and the engine seems to better suited to the Bentley than the petrol versions.

Surprisingly it will deliver 30+ Mpg and under 5s to 60 mph. Obviously not at the same time

There are several 1-2 year old approved used examples around the £100k mark. I’ll be taking a drive in one before committing to another FFRR:

The AMG post reminded me, my Mercedes infotainment systems would crash and go to black screens, to reset you had to stop and lock the car for a while. Dealer refused to do anything because “no fault found” it wasn’t until I captured it on video that it was then a known issue

I don’t mind faults, I hate poor service.

Oh BMW did embarrass me once, I had been blaming the Defender for a oil leak on the drive as you would, went to collect it with the other half and the service chap was like “did sir realise it was leaking gearbox oil, we have taken care of that for you” I had swore blind there was no way it was my new BMW. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Interesting option with the Bentley. The quality of the interior certainly goes some way to compensate for the exterior styling.

Not sure I’d ever be able to justify spending that much without the security of a full 3 year manufacturer’s warranty and not being certain that no one had ever put petrol in it!

After the discussions on here I too took a look at autotrader for bentleys.
Lovely inside, but couldn't get past the outside.
Was watching a fifth gear review of the Rolls last week. Again a great car but my god it just doesnt look classy.

TJH, my mate took pictures of every time his went wrong. I think that is probably what enabled him to reject it in the first place. Especially since all the dials went, which essentially means its unroadworthy. Too many toys, not enough time
